BSEd – Science II
LEARNING ACTIVITY 1
Directions: Answer the following questions. Give at least three sentences per
question.
1. What will you do to help our country improve in the field of science and
technology?
It is a great privilege for me to contribute to the advancement of science
and technology as a citizen of this country, but as a student, all I can do right
now is raise awareness. We all know how important science and technology are to
our country and our lives, so it's important for people to comprehend and
embrace changes in these areas.
If we could only open our minds and eyes and start listening to what is
right, we may have been able to avoid or mitigate the impacts of the epidemic by
now. You and I might make a difference one step at a time by making small
contributions and informing people to join together and appreciate science and
technology.
2. Do you agree that we need to produce more professionals who focus on
science and technology? Why or why not. Explain your answer.
Yes, I think that more specialists focused on science and technology are
needed at all times and in all places.
Many sciences and technology personnel prefer to relocate to other nations
in quest of a better living. In times of disease and epidemic, such as the one we
are experiencing today, we notice a scarcity of specialists who focus on science
and technology. We may not be able to make them overnight, but whoever
completes the course will surely be needed in the future and may be able to help.
The economy needs technologists who can substantially aid in the
advancement of the economy. We would be able to become more focused and
secure in elements such as health, the environment, and the industry in general
if we mold aspirants to become experts in science and technology. At the end of
the day, it is still us and the people around us who would benefits from these
innovations.
3. Describe how science and technology evolved during each period in history.
As evidenced by the evolution of science and technology throughout
history, innovation is a process. During the pre-Spanish period, they began with
rudimentary stone tools and weapons, and they discovered the medicinal
properties of plants and were able to extract medicine from them. They possessed
an alphabet, counting systems, a system of weight and measurement, and a

calendar based on the lunar cycle. When they introduced formal education and
established scientific institutions, the Spanish contributed to the progress of
science and technology in the Philippines. When the Americans took over from
the Spaniards, science and technology progressed at a steady pace. During the
American period, science was oriented toward agriculture, food processing,
forestry, medicine, and pharmacy, but owing to the United States' free trade
policy, which matured an economy centered around agriculture and trade, great
emphasis was placed on the development of industrial technologies. Science was
only given priority under the Marcos administration, with the development of
science schools, colleges, and research institutes being promoted. Budget
allocation for research and technology rose throughout the fifth republic,
providing additional possibilities for Filipinos.
Without our forefathers' devotion, support, and perseverance, we would
not have had the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of what we have now, and we
owe a debt of gratitude to all of history's creative minds.
