What I Can Do
Creating Mini Art Using Local Art Materials
Searching and finding potential local art materials at home will be all for naught if
they are left where they are and stay unused. Finding time to create a mini art using the
materials you have found and listed will give you a sense of fulfillment as you put the
artist inside you at work. Try doing the following steps:
A. Gather the local art materials that you have listed.
B. Conceptualize a mini art work that you can create using these local art materials.
C. Get extra materials like scissors tape and glue to realize the artwork you have in
mind.
D. Start working on it. Make it simple.
E. After finishing it, give it a title and take a picture of it that you can send to your
teacher.
Additional Activities
If the conditions are right in your community, you can look for other potential local art
materials in your street or neighborhood. There is no need to go far from your house.
Just answer the following as you go around:
A. List down five (5) things or objects (no need to get them) that can be used as local art
material.
1. Egg Shells
2. Pebbles
3. Paint
4. Paper
5. Rice
B. Among the things that you have found, which one is the most abundant? Why are
they plentiful in your neighborhood?
Paper, because paper is very common in our everyday lives. Everyone is using
papers specially students and teachers.
C. How can you use these things or objects in creating an artwork?
I can use these objects to make decorations, landscapes, paintings and designs.

What I Can Do
Sharpening Art Critiquing Skills
Students learn about arts using the usual art materials. Instructions are given, the
artwork is created and submitted for grading, and that’s it. In studying Contemporary
Philippine Arts from the Regions, the importance of evaluating art materials and art
techniques was given due recognition.
To apply, hone and sharpen critiquing skills, the following art materials are placed side
by side for critiquing. Evaluate the following pairs of art materials and answer the
questions on a separate sheet of paper.
A. Paper or Plastic
1. Which one would you prefer using? Why?
I prefer using paper in creating art because for me it is much easier to use
than plastics. Both paper and plastic can be recycled and reused but paper is
more accessible.
2. How would you use it in creating an artwork?
I can use scratch papers by recycling and making a new paper out of it.
The new paper can be used in pages of scrapbooks or notebooks.
3. What combination with other materials would you use it?
There are many other materials I can combine paper with when making an
artwork. However, if I am going to make an artwork using it, I will combine it with
paint to decorate it and I can use scissors to cut designs from it.
B. Colored Pencils or Watercolor
1. Which one would you prefer using? Why?
I prefer using colored pencils because it is easier to use and I find
watercolor hard to use, I cannot put the right amount of water needed and it is
messy when I’m using in an artwork.
2. How would you use it in creating an artwork?
Colored pencils can be used in drawing, painting and decorating an
artwork.
3. What combination with other materials would you use it?
I can use colored pencils on papers to decorate and draw some designs.
C. Paste or Glue
1. Which one would you prefer using? Why?
I prefer using glue because it is more comfortable to use than paste. Glue
is better because but the paste flakes off really easily.
2. How would you use it in creating an artwork?
Glue can be used to stick pieces of paper. Many kinds of art can be made
using glue. A collage is a work of art made by using glue to stick colored things
onto paper.
3. What combination with other materials would you use it?
I can combine glue with paper to make an artwork.
D. Sand or Glitters
1. Which one would you prefer using? Why?
I prefer using glitters, it is better to use as decoration and design than
sand.
2. How would you use it in creating an artwork?
Glitters can be used in arts and crafts to color, accessories and texture
items. It can also be used in cosmetics to make the face and nails shiny or
sparkly.
3. What combination with other materials would you use it?
Glitters can be combined with glue to be use as decoration and design on
a certain artwork.
E. Oil Pastel or Crayons
1. Which one would you prefer using? Why?
I prefer using oil pastel than crayons specially when doing posters
because oil pastel is easy to blend and shade unlike crayons that are hard to
blend and it has different texture than oil pastel.
2. How would you use it in creating an artwork?
Just like watercolor, I can use oil pastel in making posters and in coloring.
3. What combination with other materials would you use it?
Paper, cardboard, and even on glass, plastic, and wood. Many also prefer
to use oil pastels on canvas.
Additional Activities
Artworks come in different forms, shapes, colors and sizes. The differences stem from
the variety of art materials that were used. The following are pictures of different
artworks. Identify the art materials that were used and the art technique that was used
in creating the art work. Make a critique of the art materials used and the art technique
applied to these artworks. Answer on a separate sheet of paper

What’s More
Watch the videos on Local Legends: Las Piñas’ Jeepney presentation in the link below.
Using a separate sheet write an informative summary of the materials and techniques of
the videos.
Crowned the “king of the road” the jeepney as its most popular and widely
recognized form of transportation because of their big box type frame. The brand name
that has actually come to mean jeepney is “Sarao,” the company that first started out
making them in 1953 and became famous the world over for doing so. At first, they will
gather raw materials to make the body of the jeepney. When the body is done, they will
add the design such as the chairs inside the jeep, the roof and paintings outside and
lastly they will add the engine and propellers.
Art is painted on its sides which can be anything from religious pictures, to super
heroes and NBA players. They can also become a testament to art and what others call
street art, they also put design in its horns, mirrors and tassels to make it more
attractive and to call out the attention of passengers.
