1. Describe distinctive musical elements of given pieces in 20th century styles.
2. Explain the performance practice (setting, composition, role of composers/performers, and audience) of 20th
century music.
3. Relates 2oth century music to other art forms and media during the same time period.
4. Performs music sample from the 20th century and evaluates music performances using guided rubrics.

Electronic and Chance Music
In the 20th century, many musical styles coexisted with impressionism. The
movement is represented by the two best composers of this era, Claude Debussy
and Maurice Marvel. Transcending moods and suggestive imagery in
Impressionism gave birth to unconventional harmony, rhythm, and tone color.
