READING BLANKS

(DROP & DOWN) (IPMORTANT QUESTION)

DESCRIPTION.
1. 2.5 Minutes for each passage.
2. Total passages would be around 4 – 5.
3. Each passage would be consisted of 3 – 7 blanks.
4. Each blank has 1 mark, which will contribute to reading score.
5. Individual words will be given as options at the bottom of the passage.
6. There is no negative marking for the wrong answers.
TIPS &TRICKS

1. First of all read the passage without having a look on the options.
2. Try to guess the word that what could be the answer for this blank and
then look for the options.
3. Use elimination technique, this way it would be easy to choose the
answer.
4. Choose the answer, which you think relates best with the blank.
5. While choosing the answer consider three elements context (convey a
coherent meaning), grammar and vocabulary.

READING BLANKS
Important grammatical Rules

1.
If there is a blank right after an article (a/an/the), there will always be a
‘noun’. [Article (a/an/the) + Noun]. Adil had a friend who helped him in the
time of need.

2.
If there is a blank between the article (a/an/the) and the noun, it will always
be an adjective’. [Article (a/an/the) + Adjective + Noun] a. Steve played a great
role in the success of his team.

3.
If there is a blank right after a possessive pronoun (his, their, her, our, mine,
your, etc.), there will always be a ‘noun’. [Possessive noun + Noun] a. We will
use his car tomorrow.

4.
If there is a blank between a possessive pronoun (his, their, her, our, mine,
your, etc.) and a noun, there will always be an ‘adjective’. [Possessive noun +
Adjective + Noun]. She admired your stellar performance in the last month.

5.
If there is a blank right after the helping verb (HV) is/am/are/was/were,
there will either be the ‘third form’ or ‘continuous form of the verb’ (with
‘ing’). [HV + third or continuous form of verb] a. John is playing football.
(Active voice) b. We were stranded in the mountains because of land sliding.
(Passive voice)

6.
If there is a blank right after the words be/been, there will either be the ‘third
form’ or ‘continuous form of the verb’ (with ‘ing’). [Be/been + third or
continuous form of verb]. They have been trying to solve the problem for two
hours. b. The project will be completed by next month.

7.
If there is a blank right after the word ‘to’, it will be the ‘first form of verb’. [To
+ first form of the verb]. I am here to represent my client. b. Certain measures
must be taken to rectify the situation.

QUESTION)

DESCRIPTION.
1- 2.5 Minutes for each passage.

READING & WRITING BLANKS


Important grammatical rules

1.
If there is any blank after “to”______
The word after “to” will always be the first form of verb.
For example. I am here to make coffee.
Make, break and create etc.

2.
If there is any blank after “for/while”___________
You have use continuous form of verb i.e. 1st verb+ing
For example. I want something for storing food.
While eating the apple, we met him.
Playing, doing and sleeping etc.

3.
If there is any blank after “it/which/that”___________
You have to use plural form of verb eg. (verb with s/es)
Eg. She reads books.
plays, goes and makes etc.

4.
Blank after “is/am/are” _______________
Use continuous form of verb ie. VERB+ing (for ACTIVE VOICE)
For Passive voice only 3rd form can be used.
Eg. He is playing cricket. (Active)
cricket is being played by him. (Passive)

5.
Blank after a/an/the______
There will always be a noun in the blank.
a/an/the+noun. Eg. There is an apple in the basket.

6.
Blank between an article(a/an/the) and a noun, it will always be an
adjective.
a/an/the + adjective + noun.
Eg. There is a whit house in the city.

7.
Blank after “has/have/had”___________
Use past participle of verb ie. Verb ending with “ed” or 3 rd form.
Eg. He has eaten the food.

8.
Blank after “a/an”________
There will always be a singular noun in the blank.
Eg. He went to a party. ( not parties)

9.
Blank after “be/been”___________
Either 3rd form or Continuous form of verb.
Eg. He has been working on the project for a long time.
The tutor told the students to be disciplined.

10.
Blank after “can/could/may/will/would/shall/should”_______
There will be 1st form of the verb in the blank.
Eg. I will come to the class tomorrow.
She can pass this exam easily.
You should work hard, if you want to succeed.

REORDER PARAGRAPHS (IPMORTANT QUESTION)

DESCRIPTION
In reorders the sentences sequence would be disordered. You
have to place them in their original order.

FOR EXAMPLE
1. 2 – 3 – 5 – 4 The right order 1 – 2 – 3 - 4 - 5

2. Total questions 2 – 3.
3. 2.5 Minutes for each.
4. You will get around 3 – 6 sentences.
5. You will get one mark for each right pair.
6. The maximum marks are one less than the total number of sentences in
any reorder paragraph question.

TIPS & TRICKS


1. Choose the sentence with general information.
2. Choose a sentence with a little information.
3. Choose a sentence with more details.
4. Choose a sentence with most details.
5. Find out the linkage between sentences.
6. If you are unable to find the first sentence, then try to find the right pair
and after repeat the same procedure.

PRECISE TIPS & TRICKS


1- How to find the first sentence?
 It is an independent and self-explanatory sentence.
 It will introduce the topic.
 It does not require the previous information.
 It will be giving very general information.
2- How to find linking sentences?
 Acronym rule for example 1st, 2nd and 3rd etc.
 Article Rule A – general. The – specific.
 Example Rule 1st – 2nd etc.
 Subject Rule Subject + verb + object.
 Time Rule Past to present and present to future.
