LEADERSHIP DEMONSTRATED:
Took over the clinical Microbiology division of the Department of Laboratory Medicine, All India
Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in 1991. The division had no research and development
work and only a limited academic role. However, this division is now developed into a full fledged
molecular biology laboratory well equipped with most of the modern diagnostic and research tools.
The division is catering molecular diagnostic services not only to the Institute hospital patients but
also to patients of other hospitals in and outside Delhi. During this period I received several
research grants from all funding agencies such as Department of Biotechnology, Indian Council of
Medical Research, Department of Science and Technology, Council for Scientific and Industrial
Research etc. I am leading a team of 9 PhD scientists/students and 22 technical personnel. As a
team leader I am supervising more than 6,00,000 diagnostic tests every year beside publishing an

average of 8-10 research papers and average grant inflow of Rs. 15-20 lakhs every year. My lab is
recognised as reference laboratory for HIV and TORCH tests.
