✔️PARENT AND FAMILY INVOLVEMENT
Parental involvement is one of the most important factors in the successful implementation of
any educational program for children with special needs. Parents play vital roles as partners of
special educators in educating children with special needs as well as instruments in preparing
them in academic, religious, moral and spiritual development.
Likewise, the involvement of families in educational programs for children with disabilities is
essential for program success. Families are resources for program follow through and can supply
new information useful to teachers. Parents and siblings through involvement develop more
realistic expectations for children achievement. Effective family communications systems increase
the level of support for special education . Children with special needs usually feel more
comfortable when there is a close working relationship between parents and school personnel.
There are ways of involving parents in the child's educational program (Spencer J. Salend. 1990.

1. Organized a group to work cooperatively with professionals in order to provide support and
information to parents of children who have disabilities.
2.Train parent volunteers to work with other parents in the community and their involvement in
educating their children with special needs with respect to the following aspects.
2.1IDENTIFICATION
Parents are the first ones to observe that their child has a disability and as such should willingly
share information regarding the developmental milestones of the child.
2.2ASSESSMENT
Parents are the valuable source for assessing the pupils educational and health-related needs.
Their experience in caring their disabled children shall be their assessment.
2.3PROGRAMMING
Parents can fill up a form and give information on the birth history, health and medical
background of the child after birth. During PTC (Parent-teacher Conference), discuss
recommendations on how the child can be best handled. Parents could be requested to submit a
special child for full psycho-educational assessment.
✔️PARENTS ROLE & TEACHERS ROLE
1. Assure parents that their child will be provided with appropriate educational services.
2. Inform parents that it is normal of your job to manage problems concerning behavior of the
child.
3. Invite parents to your classroom so that they can see for themselves how their child plays and
interacts with the teachers and with his classmates.
4. Assure parents that as the teacher, you will do your best to let his child learn as much as much
he can.
5. Discuss/convince parents that a CSN is first and foremost a child that has the rights to equal
opportunities.
6. Train parents on how to educate their own child at home.
7. Encourage parents to follow-up school activities at home.
8. Inform parents of available resources in the community that could assist them in their records.
9. Invite parents for volunteer services like act as chairperson during field-trip, night guard on
camp activities.
10. Equip parents with certain basic skills in working with a CSN.
11. Encourage movements and and activities for furtherance of the interests of CSN.
PARENT'S ROLE
1. Put your trust in the school and believe that your child will be taken care of and accepted in
the regular school.
2. Support and help teachers in handling your child by attending meetings and parent's training.
3. Visit your child in his classroom and observe how he is learning and how he plays and works
with his classmates.
4. Appreciate teacher's effort and concern being given to your child.
5. Obtain more knowledge of the rights of the child and their own duties, liabilities and rights as

Code, Article 3 Section 1-12, Article 4, Section1-7, Chapter 2, Articles 43-45, Chapter 3, Article 46,
Section 1-9. Article 58-59.
6. Take time to meet the teacher during Parent-Teacher Conference (PTC). Join parent's
organizations and take an active role in activities prepared for your training.
7. Guide your child in his homework as per instruction of the teacher. Follow ins
8. Visit their resources and request for assistance when needed.
