This document provides instructions for installing software packages needed for the AR2521 Digital Modeling and Simulation module, including Rhino 3D, Grasshopper, GhPython, Embryo, Ladybug, and Honeybee. Set Rhino3D’s unit as Meters

• Open Rhinoceros, set the unit as Meters which is required for Grasshopper

Set Rhino3D’s unit as Meters

• Type Grasshopper in the Command Line window in Rhino, hit the Enter key to open
Grasshopper, and make both programs stand by.

1. Go to NUS IVLE website:
https://ivle.nus.edu.sg/default.aspx

2. Login with your NUS ID

3. Go to Workspace  AR2521 Workshop

4. Go to Files (Workbin) Software

5. Download the files in this folder and


open the PDF software installation

Installation Install GhPython & Embryo

1. Install the GhPython and Embryo Components for Grasshopper

• Drag and drop the two files ghpython.gha and Embryo.gha downloaded onto the Grasshopper canvas

• The GhPython component icon shall appear in the Maths  Script panel on the Grasshopper menu. The Embryo
component group shall also appeal in the Grasshopper menu as a group tab.

2. Download and install Ladybug components for Grasshopper

• Go to the website https://github.com/mostaphaRoudsari/ladybug

• Click Clone or download, select Download ZIP and save it to C:\Users\”YourUserName”\Downloads folder

• Right-click the ladybug-master.zip file downloaded, select 7-Zip  Extract to “ladybug-master\”

• Go to the extracted folder ladybug-master\ladybug-master\userObjects, select all the .ghuser files, drag and drop
them onto the Grasshopper canvas, and the Ladybug component group tab shall appear on the Grasshopper menu.

3. Download and install Honeybee components for Grasshopper:

• Go to the website https://github.com/mostaphaRoudsari/honeybee

• Click Clone or download, select Download ZIP and save it to C:\Users\”YourUserName”\Downloads folder

• Right-click the honeybee-master.zip file downloaded, select 7-Zip  Extract to “honeybee-master\”

• Go to the extracted folder honeybee-master\honeybee-master\userObjects, select all the .ghuser files, drag and drop
them onto the Grasshopper canvas, and the Honeybee component group tab shall appear on the Grasshopper menu.

!!! Note that you need to repeat the installation steps 1-3 as described if you login on a
different computer in the lab using your NUS student ID.

• This is because that each installation of Grasshopper components is only associated with the current user on a given
computer in the lab.

• Once you have finished the installation on a particular computer as a user, you can continue to use Ladybug and
Honeybee on that computer .

4. Singapore Weather Data File

• Copy & paste the SGP_Singapore.486980_IWEC.epw file into C:\EnergyPlusV8-4-0\WeatherData or the project folder
you are using.

Update and Uninstallation How to update Ladybug and Honeybee components

• To update the Ladybug and


Honeybee components, insert the
following three components onto
the Grasshopper canvas as shown
on the left.

• Set the 1st Boolean Toggle


component to True to update all
the LB+HB components installed
on the current computer.

• Set the 2nd Boolean Toggle


component to True to update
only the LB+HB components used
in the current Grasshopper file.

Update and Uninstallation How to uninstall Ladybug and Honeybee components

To uninstall old version of Ladybug and Honeybee installed on your computer:

• Go to IVLE  WORKSHOP (16/17 Sem 1)  Files  Software

• download the following Grasshopper file: update_or_uninstall_Ladybug_Honeybee.gh

• open this file in Grasshopper and follow the instructions
