The sensor supply voltage number 1 circuit provides power for sensors on the engine and optional OEM devices. Fault code 386 indicates a high voltage condition on this circuit, which can be caused by a short to battery voltage or a failed ECM power supply. A multi-step guided troubleshooting process is outlined to diagnose the issue.

Potential causes of fault code 386 include an individual sensor supply wire in the harness being shorted to battery voltage or a failed ECM power supply.

The recommended steps to troubleshoot fault code 386 include checking for active fault codes, inspecting ECM and harness connectors, checking the OEM +5V supply circuit for shorts, clearing any inactive fault codes.

Sensor Supply Voltage Number 1 Circuit

Circuit Description

The sensor supply voltage number 1 of the electronic control module (ECM) provides (+) 5
VDC supply for the barometric pressure sensor on the engine harness. This +5 VDC supply
also powers three optional OEM devices. The three devices are digital vehicle speed
sensor, remote accelerator position sensor, and OEM pressure sensor.

Component Location

The sensor supply number 1 is located in the ECM. The supply voltage is spliced off in the
engine and OEM harness to each sensor it supports.

Shop Talk

High voltage on the sensor supply line can be caused by an individual sensor supply wire in
the harness shorted to battery voltage or a failed ECM power supply.

Cautions and Warnings

CAUTION

To reduce the possibility of damaging a new ECM, all other active fault
codes must be investigated prior to replacing the ECM.

CAUTION
To reduce the possibility of pin and harness damage, use the following
test leads when taking a measurement:
Part Number 3164133 - male Deutsch test lead
Part Number 3822758 - male Deutsch/AMP/Metri-Pack test lead.
