ACTIVITY:

WESTERN EASTERN
They have variety of junk food. The peoples are believed in healthy food.
There dress code is modern. The dress code us simple or spiritual.
They are not much attached to their culture. Peoples are very attached to their culture.
Peoples are friendly. Peoples have good relation with other peoples,
they have strong unity.
Peoples are not spiritual. Peoples love their tradition or follow their
religion.
ANALYSIS
Do you agree with the differentiation between the West and the East? Where can you find
the Philippines in the distinction? What are the factors that make the Philippines similar or
different from its Asian neighbors? Is there also a difference between regions or ethnolinguistic
groups in the Philippines?
My answer is yes, I agree with the differentiation between the east and west. Each of
them has a very unique culture of their own and could easily be identified. For example, the west
seeks understanding and knowledge whereas in the east, it is more of being one with the
environment. The east also gives more importance to the spiritual life and its connection to our
humanity. The west, on the other hand, is more concerned on the scientific explanation of things.
APPLICATION AND ASSESSMENT

culture. Provide a brief explanation of your output. You can also cite books and researches
about Filipino culture, self and identity to further elaborate on the topic.
It is said that the Filipino culture is a blend of the east and west because of colonialism.
The Filipino character is a bit of all cultures together. Filipinos were said to be of Malay origin
and that bayanihan or spirit of kinship the camaraderie of which Filipinos are famous of are said
to be taken from Malay forefathers. The close family ties are said to be inherited from Chinese.
The devotedness in religion was introduced by the Spaniards who colonized the Philippines to
become Christians. Americans also influenced the proficiency in English of Filipinos.
