Explain the difference between the terms materials science and material engineering

2 (15 %)
Describe the purpose and operation of the blast furnace, basic oxygen furnace and electric arc
furnace in steel making.
List the inputs and outputs from each furnace.

4 (10 %)
Describe two common methods for producing metal powders

5 (15 %)
List the main differences between thermoplastic and thermoset polymers, including structure and
properties

6 (15 %)
List three examples of polymers produced by addition polymerization, and three examples of
polymers produced by condensation polymerization.

7 (15 %)
Explain the shear-thinning and shear-thickening behavior giving examples?
