First things first
• What we are not

Industry
– We are not against commercial cinema
– We are not a “parallel cinema”
• What can we be
– An organized movement towards renewing an
artistic cinematic framework
– A support group for all the independent film
makers
– A group which shares knowledge and resources
among the members

Indie Cinema
• What is it?
– An independent film, or indie film, is a feature film
that is produced mostly outside of a major film
studio.
– Every Telugu film or at least 90% of Telugu films are
Independent films ☺
– The other characteristics of Indie Cinema
• Personal artistic vision
• Distinguishable in style and content
• Not a low budget cheap version of a commercial
cinema
• Small specialty audiences
• Limited release
• Not a competition to commercial cinema; Can co-
exist with it
Current situation
• Indie Cinema is non-existent
– India
– Andhra
• Almost every Telugu film is an Independent cinema
• Artistic vision ? No such thing exists
• Indie cinema is not short films alone
• Indie cinema is not documentaries alone
• We also need feature length Indie cinema &
we can do it
• It is going to be an everyday struggle
Challenges
• “Oh Audience, Where Art Thou?”
– Do we have audience for Indie Cinema
– Who are the audience?
– How do we create audience?
– Indie cinema is not documentary
• Money Money and Money
– Investment
– Return on Investment
• Actors,Technicians and Equipment
– Where to find talent
– Where and how to rent/buy equipment
Challenges (Cont’d)
• Venues
– The venues are many but how do we make use of
them
• Film Clubs
• Television
• before a feature
• Internet
• Home video – Direct to DVD
• Screening
• Screening in theaters as an omnibus collection
• Sustainability
– Why should I come back to your next meeting?
Way forward

• Organize a place to operate from
• Future plans.
