FASHION AND LIFESTYLE ACCESSORIES DESIGN
INTRODUCTION
This is a piece of information kept to be referred for a particular craft, which is
popular or appreciated by the many. We have tried to make an effort so that
the vast and diverse creativity of both Dharmavaram leather and Karimnagar
Silver Filigree, is brought out with new data of information to the world of
design. Many of which are dying crafts and their craftsmanship remains only
as a memory. For new generation this craft needs to be known. Hence, we
want the people to appreciate, and we want the people to recognise the
craft, its characteristics and quality, what goes into making it and appreciate
the value and uniqueness of this craft.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We would like to thank NIFT director and the faculty members, CC Mr. Satya
Prakash sir for their motivation, great support and guidance without which
craft documentation would have been difficult task. We want to give special
thanks to Prof. Lakshmi Reddy for helping up in learning the techniques of
documentation without which the completion of document and print would
be impossible.
SUBJECT AIM
The course is to enable the students to work in the rich and varied crafts
scenarios in India and envisage the scenario where the transition and
innovation comes together .this introduces the students to work upon the
concept of co-creation with the artisans. The craft world of India is also the
ground on which many designers create their entrepreneurial venture and
this project gives them an experience towards the same. The around the
skills, materis resources and socio cultural scenarios.
• The objective would be to understand, design and develop new product/s
suitable for a certain market/a new segment, applying traditional crafts skills
and techniques.
• To understand the social cultural and economic aspects of crafts in traditional
societies and the changes experienced by them in the digital world.
• To understand nuances and contains involved in craft production.
• To understand the how craft skills are passed on and have sustained for
generations and changes caused by commercialization, vari0zaton and
alienation of craft products.

Theme: Matsya-Kasturi
Type of Products: Fall ceiling and wall mounted Lamp
Concept: An amalgam of Hindu mythology, Mahabharat’s famous
love story of Rishi Parashar and Matsyagandha (Satyavati) and
motif/ form derivation of the relevant elements, fragrance of water
lily and stench of a fish, justifies the chosen natural form using
ripple effect methodology. Trend of S/S 20 Kids, ‘Abyss’ and ‘Dreamy
outdoors’ goes hand in hand with the craft’s characteristics while
the symbolism completes the circle.

3. Abhay Sharma
Theme: Grasshopper
Type of Products: Souvenir.
Concept: The Tie clip and cufflinks are inspired by the form of
grasshopper. the motifs of silver filigree used have common
elements in both the products to look like a pair.
4. Ajay Kurup

Type of Products: Lamp
Concept: The concept was to observe the close up details of a
sunflower, like the petals, pthalumus of the centre of the sunflower.
The shapes were derived from the Leaves and Centre detail of the
flower and the square shapes. Thus, as a sunflower, the leaves are
to reflect light so is the lamp.

Concept: I designed a mixed media product which is wood combined
with silver; inspired from the tree of life and chose a minimal and
simplified form, which includes geometric form and lines.

Concept: The lamps are inspired by the journeys of the mythical
characters who explored unprecedented territories through their
journeys and their silent observers.

and simple design while keeping the roots of Silver Filigree alive.

the glass look beautiful and affordable for people so that sales can
be increased

Concept: building a memoir of a place with promoting the craft
of silver filigree and henceforth building mini souvenirs with the
character of utility keeping in mind of the craft and the expenses
followed by it due to the material used.

Concept: By taking the half side of the leaf, I have designed Earrings
of the leaf shape.

Concept: I have designed a broach which is unisexual and has an apt
size and a design for being carried off at various occasions and can
be worn repeatedly. Even though it is a single unit repeated in the
design, it is symmetrical and striking.

Concept : To make something new, beautiful and affordable gifting
item for individuals which would reflect their emotion towards the
gift and help creating brand value and win customers

Concept: A memento modeled after a dragonfly taking inspiration
from its delicate translucent wings and mesh like patterns in them.

Concept: Feather of bird is believed to be help in communication
and protection. A diya stand made of pure silver to keep the flame
of happiness and light in your home. I have designed Diya Stand and
Hair pin which is inspired from the shape of bird feather.

Concept: Its a way of story telling of Gods and Goddesses on leather
through emission of light, it can be in any form or shape.

Concept: Mayur is consdered to be sacred and often lucky by a lot of
people and is believed to be good on any auspicious occasion.I have
designed a memento for NIFT which is inspired from the shape of 2
peacocks standing opposite to each other.

taken and derived into a insence stick holder and a card holder for
memento.

believed to be good on any auspicious occasion.I have designed a
memento for NIFT which is inspired from the shape of peepal leaf.

Concept: The trend i have chose is snake. although snake is considered
as a negative element in the leather craft . The tale that supports my
theme is the tale of Krishna and Kaliya naag . Also trend supports
many aspects of the chosen trend snake’s scales support the leather
element of the craft . Also snake has several and deep connections
with our history of Hindu mythology. Snakes silhouette and patterns
also provide different ornamentation inspirations .
