SIMULATION
INTRODUCTION:-
Simulation is the basis of sensitive training, socio drama, role playing, and psychodrama. It is not actual training.
According to international dictionary of education, simulation is a teaching technique used particularly in
management education and training in which a real life situation and values are simulated by substitute displaying
similar characteristics.
It becomes clear thus that simulation creates an environment resembling real life situations which helps the students
to practice and gain experience. As in real life situation so that they can practice confidently when exposed to real
life situation.
DEFINITION:-
Simulations have been defined as an operating representation of central features of reality.
- B T BASAVANTHAPPA 2003
Role playing in which the process of teaching is displayed artificially and an effort is made to practice some
important skills of communication through this technique.
- K P NEERJA, 2003
TYPES OF SIMULATION:-
1. Model.
2. Oral.
3. Written.
4. Computerized.
5. Simulation patient.
ACTIVITES IN SIMULATION:-
1. Simulation exercise:- he will gain some perceptions of the actions, attitudes and persons of simulations.
2. Simulation game:- a game that represents real life situation in which learner compete according to a set of
rules in order to win or achieve an objective.
3. Role playing:-a form of drama in which learners spontaneously art out rules in an interaction involving
problems or challenging in human relation.
PURPOSES OF SIMULATION:-
Simulation is intended to help students practice decision making and problem solving skills and to develop
human interactions abilities in a controlled and state setting.
Active involvement in simulation game the students achieves cognitive, affective and psychomotor
outcomes.
It provide a chance to apply principles and theories students have learned and to see how and when these
principles work.
Trough simulation students can learn how to learn and test various approaches in a setting where patient
can not be hurt and where wrong decision can be reminded.
PROCEDURE OF SIMULATION:-
1. SELECTING ROLE PLAYERS:-
Small group of 4-5 student teacher is selected.
They are assigned different letters in a alphabetical order.
Assignments are rotated within group to give chance to everyone.
2. SELECTING AND DISCUSSING SKILLS:-
Skills to be practiced are discussed and the topics that fit in the skill are suggested.
One topic each is selected by the group members for exercise.
3. PLANNING:- it has to be decided who starts the conversation and when.
4. DECIDING THE PROCEDURE OF EVALUATION:- how to record the interaction and how to
present it to actor has to be decided so that a proper feedback on his performance could be given.
5. PROVIDED PRACTICAL LESSON:- the role players should be provided reinforcements on their
performance to give them training for playing their part well.
SIMULATORS:-
It is deliberately designed to omit certain parts of real operational situations.
Simulators are designed for procedures.
For adjusting electronic representation of motor skills.
Identification of targets.
Emergence signals.
Conceptual tasks involving reasoning.
Team functions.
ADVANTAGES OF SIMULATION:-
It is highly student centered because of its very interesting and motivating nature, effectiveness in teaching
for all type of students.
It offers an excellence opportunity to learn from mistakes.
It fosters critical thinking and problem solving skills.
It helps students to acquire concrete meaning for abstract terms
It provide a realistic experiences, students can easily apply these concepts in the clinics.
DISADVANTAGES OF SIMULATION:-
Simulation can not be made in all aspects of curriculum.
It can not be conveniently used in case of small children because mechanism is too difficult for them to
follow.
It requires a lot of preparation on the part of teachers.
Time consuming.
Difficulty in using analytic approach.
Need for many stimulators.
