Task: 2 – Mesh and Nodal
analysis
Objective:
The objective of this exercise is study of mesh and nodal analysis, specifically its usage in
multi-source DC circuits and the circuit currents and voltages will be investigated.
Components Required:
S. No. Components and Meter Range Type Quantity
1. Resistors -
2. Voltmeter/ Ammeter DC
3. RPS (0-30) V Dual
4. Bread Board -
5. Connecting wires As Required
Theory Overview
Both nodal and mesh analysis provide a systematic way of analyzing a complex network,
networks which contain many series connected elements are more suitable for mesh
analysis, whereas in network with parallel connected elements are suitable for nodal
analysis. If node voltages are required, it may be expedient to apply nodal analysis. If
branch or mesh currents are required, it would be better to use mesh analysis. Both of these
methods have certain limitations, only one of the two methods would be suitable for
solving the circuit. Thus, the key is to select the method that results in the smaller number of
equations and gives the answer required.

Procedure:
1. Form the circuit diagram in MULTISIM.
2. Measure the currents and the voltage using appropriate measuring
components.
3. Record the both the theoretical and practical values in the table
4. Verify the practical results with theoretical results and the deviation.
Precautions:
1. Check for proper colour coding of resistors.
2. Choose the measuring meters according to the range (theoretical).
3. The terminal of the each component and the ground should be properly
connected.
4. Make sure for proper connections before switching ON the supply.
5. Connect the ammeter in series and the voltmeter in parallel across the
circuit

Result and Inference:
Note:
From this experiment we have learnt the method and application of Mesh Analysis from
the first two circuits and the method and application of Nodal Analysis from the last two
circuits.
