Module

1, Task 3: Send an Electronic Postcard

Send an Electronic Postcard (45 minutes)

It takes time to get to know new people and become familiar with a new environment. This task has two
goals: it provides an opportunity for me to learn something about your students and it gives you a
chance to practice how to use the messaging system in Canvas (I want to test the system and make sure
you can contact me using this line of communication).

Follow the directions below and send an 'electronic postcard' to your instructor using the Canvas
messaging system.

[Here's a brief reminder on how to send messages in Canvas:

In Global Navigation, click the Inbox link. To start a new message, click the Compose icon. To search for a
user, type the user's name (that is, your instructor’s name, ex. Radmila Popovic) in the To field. Canvas
will automatically populate matching names. If multiple names appear, use the arrow key to select the
user's name. Then press the Enter key. The user's name will appear in the To field, highlighted in light
blue. Please make sure that your instructor’s name is in the To field before you start writing. Thank you!]

Describe a typical class you teach. You may want to provide some information about:

• Your students (their number, age, gender, level of English, motivation, etc.)
• Your teaching context (number of hours per week, materials you use, classroom, equipment,
etc.)
• Something you consider relevant (you might attach a photo of your class if you have one, or
scan a page from the course book you use, or scan a student's assignment ... be innovative and
creative!).

Please don't spend too much time on this assignment! Here are some tips on how to complete it:

• This is an 'electronic' postcard, so it should brief (no more than 200 words), informative and
casual.
• You can write a paragraph, or use bullet points.

• Use ANY format you feel comfortable with: you can just send an email, or use a Word document
and attach it to the email, or play around with texts and images, or do it your own way.
