Topic:
Legality of Abortion

What:
Based on research, 60% of the world has legalized abortion to provide sanitation and safety
of the mother whereas 40% of the world is still under illegal abortions thus resulting to 20
million of the women performing unsafe abortions with unlicensed doctors. Not only is this
unsanitary but also deadly because pregnancy death results to 70,000 maternal deaths a
year. Here in the Philippines abortion is a huge issue in where it is widely debated among
the catholic church and the national Government. The main purpose of this is to control the
increasing population of the country. It also helps couples who don't want to have children
but got pregnant accidentally. If we refer to the bible or any religious books it is big “no”
when we discuss about abortion, meanwhile the gov’t sees this as an opportunity to
decrease the people who suffers because they cannot support their future child.

Who:
Catholic Church, Religious Groups, Mothers, and the Government.

Why:
Legalized abortion exists because there is a continuous argument amongst the restrictive
laws that prevents safe abortion as this may cause short- or long-term post abortion health
complications and consequences to mothers such as anaemia, prolonged weakness, and
secondary infertility as they are not able to receive the required treatment. Moreover, the
argument about whether or not abortion is a murder provides a negative stigma to the
women.
This topic aroused my attention because this topic has been an issue for a long time now.
Though we may say that this issue is somehow resolved here in our country, still many
Filipino people indulge in this kind of act even if they already know that this is illegal and may
lead to certain health conditions or even death.
