LESSON NO. 9

(How The Weather Changes)

Multiple Choice Questions.

Tick () the right answer (Note:- only answers)

1. Sun 2. Hailstones 3.Fog 4. Lots of water vapour in the air

5. Cloudy weather .

Exercises

A. Do these in your notebook :( Note:-Only answers)

Write how these are formed.

a) Snowflakes:- When water vapours cool these changes into water droplets.
Due to very cold weather these water droplets freeze into snowflakes.
b) Hailstones:- Hailstones are formed when drops of water freeze together in
the cold upper regions of thunderstorm clouds. These chunks of ice are
called hailstones.
c) Fog:- Fog is formed in winter, when water vapours condense just above the
ground to form a thick cloud.
d) Dew:- Dew is formed due to condensation of water vapours on thin,
exposed objects in the morning or evening.
e) Frost:- Frost is formed in cold places when the water vapours first change
into water droplets and then into tiny crystals of ice.

B. Draw diagrams to show how these blow.

1. Land breeze:- 2. Sea breeze:-

C. Draw and label the water cycle.

OR

D. How would you dry your school uniform on a rainy day in summer?

Ans:- On a rainy day, we can dry our school uniform by keeping it near a fan.

E. Explain in one or two sentences:

1. What is humid weather?

Ans:- When there is too much of water vapour already present in the
atmosphere. we call it as humid weather.

2. What do you understand by the terms?

Ans:- a) Evaporation:- The process by which water changes from its liquid state to
gas or vapours is called evaporation.

b) Condensation:- The process by which water changes from its vapour

state to liquid state is called condensation.

3. How does it rain?

Ans:- When water from river or seas gets heated, it changes into water vapours.
These vapours rise up to form clouds. Water from these vapours comes down in
the form of rain. This is known as water cycle.

4. How does the breeze blow?

Ans:- When the land gets warmed by the sun, the warmed land heats the air
above it. Hot air rises into the sky. Cold air rushes in to take its place. So, there is a
lot of air moving around. This makes the breeze blow.

5. Rains in summer make us feel sticky and uncomfortable. Why?

Ans:- Rains in summer make us feel sticky and uncomfortable because of

increased humidity in the atmosphere. Due to the presence of water vapours in
the atmosphere, the sweat released by the body is not absorbed by the
atmosphere so, we feel sticky and uncomfortable.

LESSON NO. 10

(Keeping the Water Clean)

Exercises

A. Write ‘True’ or ‘False ‘for the following statements.

1. F 2. T 3. F 4. F 5.T

B. Do these in your notebook.

a. What happens to water in the city’s waterworks?

Ans:- In the city’s waterworks, all the dirt and germs are removed from the water
to make it safer to use. Then it is sent to our home.

b. How are land plants and animals harmed because of polluted river water?

Ans:- Polluted river water harms both land plants and animals .Polluted river
water not only hampers plant growth but also allows plants to absorb dangerous
chemicals from the water and pass them on to the animals that depend on them
for survival. Furthermore, the consumption of polluted water makes the animals
sick frequently.

c. What is the water table?

Ans:- The level of underground water is called the water-table.

LESSON NO. 11

(The Solar System)

Multiple Choice Questions.

Tick () the right answer (Note:- only answers)

1. Sun 2. Jupiter 3.Venus 4. Venus 5. Pluto

6. dust and hot gases 7. crust 8. sun 9. Lava

10. Hot water

Exercises

A. Draw a diagram showing the earth’s core, mantle and crust.

Write one line about each.

a. Crust :- The top layer of earth on which we live.

b. Mantle:- The mantle(the middle part) is made of hot rocks.

c. Core:- The core( the centre) of the earth has very hot metals and minerals.

Prepared by: - Ms. Naveeda Page 5

Subject: - Science Class:-4th

B. Do these in your notebook.

1. What is a hot spring?

Ans: - When hot water finds a weak spot in the crust it rushed out. This is called
hot spring.

2. Out of the eight planets there is life only on the earth. Why?

Ans: - Because earth has just the right amount of warmth, air and water to
support life.

3. What is a volcano?

Ans:- A volcano is an opening in the earth’s crust through which lava ,volcanic and
gases escape.

C. Write the word.

1. Solar

2. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.

3. Hot gases and dust 4. Sun 5. Planet 6. Orbit

LESSON NO. 12

(The Earth’s Seasons)

Multiple Choice Questions.

Tick () the right answer (Note:- only answers)

1. Third 2. The equator 3. 365 days 6 hours 4. Rotation

of the earth 5. Revolution of the earth 6. equator

7. the places between the poles and the equator 8. equator

Exercises

A. Give reasons why:

Ans:- 1. Because the earth rotates on its axis and completes one rotation in 24
hours.

2. Because the seasons are caused by the revolution of the earth which is
completed in one year.

B. Write the word.

1. Rotation 2. Revolution 3. Axis 4. Equator

5. blue planet 6. Equator 7. Poles

C. Do these in your notebook.

1. What causes seasons on the earth?

Ans:- Seasons are caused by the revolution of earth around the sun and the fact
that earth is tilted on its axis. As the earth revolves, one pole is tilted towards the
sun. This hemisphere has summer while the other has winter.

2. Why are the poles always cold?

Ans:- Poles are always cold because they do not receive direct sunlight.
Furthermore, poles get sunlight only for about three months in a year.

Subject: - Science Class:-4th

A. Write the word.

1. Solid, liquid or gas 2. Solute and solvent 3. gases

4. Glucose solution

C. Do these in your notebook.

1. How will you say if a thing is matter or not?

Ans:- If a thing occupies space and has weight, we say it is made of matter.

2. What are the three forms of matter?

Ans:- Solid, liquid or gas are the three forms of matter.

3. Why does the level of water in a glass not rise when you dissolve a spoon of salt
in it?

Ans:- Because the salt molecules take the spaces between the water molecules
and no extra space is occupied by them.

D. Give examples:

1. Sugar 2. water 3. Glycerin 4. oil 5. Carbon

dioxide
