YSR City Square - Vijayawada
• GoAP intends to develop “Dr. YSR City Square”,
large Public Plaza at Swaraj Maidan (PWD Grounds)
in order to create an ‘Icon of Vijayawada’ to
enhance the brand value and business potential of
Vijayawada.

ANSWERS

Business Environment has been illustrated in the Overview of the State as well as
Infrastructure: The Lifeline of Regional Economic Growth. The how’s of doing business in
India and facilities available are described in slide 19.

Partnerships with Private or Public Enterprises are encouraged. The country desk as
proposed in Slide 21 is responsible for facilitating the same if the proponent seeks any
assistance in this regard. Our aim is to give as much freedom to any proponent as possible,
so that it can function at its fullest abilities and capacities and can bring more sustainable
benefits to the state’s socio-economic development.

Why is there a commitment by the state government to infrastructure?

The state is a logistics marvel on the eastern coast with a coastline of 974 Km which is

second longest in India. It 6 ports, 6 airports, over 123,000 km of road network and 2,600
km of rail network and round the clock power supply . The state has an installed power
capacity of over 24,000 MW. It has been Ranked No. 1 in implementation of Energy
efficiency and conservation programmes by World Bank. For 2018-19, Andhra Pradesh
growth rate is estimated to be 11.02%, much higher than the national average
Andhra Pradesh has industries around biotechnology, information technology (IT), textile
and leather, automotive and auto components and agriculture sectors. Sri City Special
Economic Zone that houses 150 companies from 27 countries, is a key example of well-
planned infrastructure at a strategic location near Chennai.
An estate which is developed primarily for establishment of manufacturing/ service units,
with basic infrastructural facilities like developed plots, internal roads, water distribution
facilities, sewage, power distribution, common effluent treatment plants, communication
facilities and other such facilities/services as may be required.

What are some government legislation programs and/or initiatives that support their
priority to further develop its infrastructure?
ANSWERS

Andhra Pradesh is investing in building infrastructure with the help of government


legislature and conducting various kinds of programs and taking initiatives in the state such
as highways and making every service of the government digital. National Highway 16
(India) passes through Andhra Pradesh. The highways in the state are also being widened.
APSFL is an initiative of the government of Andhra Pradesh to set up an optical fiber
network throughout the thirteen districts of Andhra Pradesh. This network provides
internet connectivity, telephony and IPTV with fiber to private and corporate users of
Andhra Pradesh. The state also has seaports such as Visakhapatnam Port, Kakinada Port,
Krishnapatnam Port for import and export and a shipyard for building ships at
Visakhapatnam. Major airports in the state are Visakhapatnam, Rajamahendravaram,
Vijayawada, with Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Vijayawada being international airports.
