HR job satisfaction synopsis

“To Study Job Satisfaction in Desai Plastic Industries,

MIDC, Nagpur”.

1. Introduction:-
Nowadays term job satisfaction is familiar term among the Managers &
the enlightened workers of modern organization. However. Common as the
expression is, it is by no means free from vagueness and confusion. There is a
tendency to use the term “Job Satisfaction” and other kindred term like
“Industrial Morale” employee’s attitude, etc. interchangeably which may not be
correct thing to do. Job satisfaction is a term with narrower connotation than
industrial morale. Industrial morale is a wide term applicable to, perhaps, the
industry as a whole and job satisfaction is one of the factors contributing to it.
“Job Attitude” is the feeling the employee has about his job, his readiness to
react is one way or the other to specific factors relate to a job. Job satisfaction or
dissatisfaction is the result of various attitudes the person holds towards his job,
towards allied factors and even towards life itself. These attitudes are concerned
with specific factors as wages, supervision, steadiness of employment,
conditions of the work, social relation on the job, prompt settlement of
grievances, fair treatment by employer and other similar items. However, a more
comprehensive approach requires that may additional factors be included before
a complete understanding of job satisfaction can be obtained.

“Job-satisfaction is the favorableness or unfavorable with which

employees view their work”.

Employee’s attitude, job satisfaction and industrial morale are often

considered to be synonymous but they are not the same. A favorable attitude

Page 1
May contribute to job-satisfaction because job-satisfaction is the result of so
many attitudes.

3. Review of Literature:-

Thus to study about the same fields occurs the need of review of
literature & it mainly includes the studies being done in past by various
researchers in last many years. Most studies of harmful workplace behavior
have focused on the motives or characteristics of perpetrators. In contrast, the
present study draws form theories of victimization to examine the conditions
under which employees are more or less likely to become targets of co-
workers aggressive actions.

The study further revealed that satisfaction with the implementation of

the Factories Act (1948) increased job satisfaction among workers. There was
a positive correlation between the level of awareness of the Factories Act and
the level of job satisfaction but this relationship is not statistically significant.
A positive correlation was found between the level of satisfaction in the
implementation of the provisions of the Provident Fund and Miscellaneous
Provisions Act (1952) and job satisfaction. The same result were found with
the Employee State Insurance Act (1948). Education and job satisfaction were
negatively related but the correlation was not statistically significant. A
negative correlation existed between status of employment and job
satisfaction among the textile workers. 21.42 percent of workers reported that
they would not like to continue with their present job.

In this study, Goyal (1995) determined the extent of job satisfaction

experienced by textile workers due to primarily the statutory labour welfare
facilities provided in the private, public & co-operative textile sectors in Punjab,
the awareness & implementation of these labour welfare facilities & their

Page 3
correlation with job satisfaction. Including the relationship between labour
welfare & job satisfaction. However, the researcher did not investigate the

Influence of personal factors(gender, age & experience) & hierarchy on the

level of satisfaction of the textile workers studied, compare the level of job
satisfaction experienced by these workers in the different sectors of the textile
industry, the influence of the non statutory labour welfare facilities on the job
satisfaction and the differential influence in the dimensions of labour welfare
facilities on the level of the job satisfaction.

In a research study by Srivastava (2004) titled impact of labour welfare

on employees attitude and job satisfaction, a comparative study was conducted
on workers in the private and public sectors of Kanpur city. The researcher
attempted to assess the quality of labour welfare activities, measure the degree
of job satisfactions of workers provided with labour welfare facilities in the
privet and public sectors and evaluate the attitude of workers towards
management in both the sectors.

With the help of standardized instruments, data was collected for the
purpose of study. These included labour welfare inventory eight dimensions of
labour welfare facilities, job satisfactions scale constructed and standardized by
Srivastava (1996) consisting of 38 items and measuring 9 dimensions of job
satisfactions and attitudes of workers towards management constructed and
standardized by kapoor (1972) consisting of 20 items. Incidental sampling
technique was used to determine the sample of 100 workers each from private
and public sectors of Kanpur city. Thus the total sample of study constituted 200
workers from the private and public sectors.

The result of study show that better labour welfare facilities have a deep
impact on workers psyche. If the condition of workers are improved and they are
provided with good labour welfare facilities they will be more satisfied in there
Page 4
job. welfare facilities work as incentives for the workers. The study also found
that there was a significant difference in the labour welfare facilities provided in
the private and public sectors. The public sectors provides better facilities to
their workers than private sectors. However welfare facilities like subsidized

loan, canteen and safety workers scored significantly higher in private sector
than public sector. Significant difference was also found in job satisfaction
experience between private and public sectors workers. The public sector
worker experienct, job security and get promotion on the basis of kindness from
authority, while private sectors workers feels job insecurity and get promotion
on the basis hard work and performance. Moreover private sectors worker also
received very good salaries and incentives than public sectors worker.
