EVOLUTION AND IMPACT OF TERRORISM IN INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
Terrorism is an extremely contested and diverse term to be explained on the basis of a single
cause. It is a policy intended to spread and create fear, hatred and it is often penetrated in an
Ideological goal. An unlawful violence that creates unconventional welfare. The concept of
terrorism has always been debatable because it is value laden and it is open for
interpretations. So, it can be said that the concept lies in the eyes of the beholder. The
portrayal of Terrorism Practices is often seen in two perspectives Globally; either as
Pactioners of violence’s; terrorism or as freedom fighter. Terrorism has always been a very
subjective concept internationally, there has been no accepted definition of terrorism which
everyone agrees upon; “one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.”
The history of terrorism can be traced back to various events of the past. In ancient Greece it
started when the rival fell to terror after the assai nation of Julius Caesar in Rome. Before the
American Independence of War there was a widely feared Ku Klux Klan; a racist
organisation that was subjected to terrorism.
In India one cannot forget the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by the colonial power.
During the Nazi Germany reign there was a brutal torture of Jews which resulted in murder of
half of millions of them. Palestinians have also resorted to terrorist activities to exempt Jews
for occupations of land.
The increase of International Terrorism started with the tragedy at airport of Israel; it was
operation carried out by Popular Front for Liberation of Palestine. The attack of terror took a
dangerous shape when Osama Bin Laden, the head of terrorist activities of the terrorist
organisation Al Qaeda set up various terror camps and planned several terrorist missions
globally. Al Qaeda has become the penetrating force of Terrorism in Middle East and North
Africa. The organisations which are affiliated to Al Qaeda are not only restricted to these two
regions but also in various Locations like Iraq, Egypt, Syria, Egypt, Mali, Libya, Algeria and
many more, Iraq has been their central focus of insurgency in Britain and America. It has
been the central focus of Jihadist rhetoric. The events of 9/11 have changed the entire world
scenario in different ways, the terrorist activities have penetrated so deeply in everyone’s
mind that now it questions the future of security of the world.
The history on the subject reveals the following generators of terrorism is ethic, religious,
ideological conflicts, injustice, revolutionary, sentiments, weak government, poverty, and
internal and external power struggle. Among the factors mentioned it applies to United
States, the cues of terrorism generated by the Muslim groups; Al Qaeda, the wholly war
syndrome, or undermining of American Supremacy. The religious, ethnic, political overlap
applies to majority of cases of terrorism as exemplified by Palestinian or Northern Irish
Terrorism.
The reasons for terrorism is a wider perspective, in terms of its influence. It is impossible to
Determine a single factor for increased activities of terrorism in the world at the same time it
is impossible to eliminate the sources of terrorism entirely. A good instance could be
financing of terrorist organisations.
Terrorism is intended to create and spread fear which often penetrated in an ideological goal
with deliberate target of a particular goal with the use of unlawful violence anunconventional
welfare. It is a strategic act of violence which involves psychological means to over power
with small force. Terrorist organisations with a global reach creates a global, in fact with an
ability to affect the International System. Terrorists have no fixed identity or location and are
stateless actors. It negatively affects in Maintaining, the International Peace and Security with
significant effects on direct and indirect growth. It has left mankind vulnerable to
indiscriminate attacks of the Terrorist. The effects of Terrorism range from short, medium,
and even long term with diverted erosion of wealth designed to rebuild infrastructure and
relief services.
In the arena of International Relations, it has taken the role of state actors as non-state actors
where there are these Individuals Influencing Foreign Policy, global financial and
technological network facilitating the ideas of war in sovereign bodies. These states are
extremely high in wars that have happened. The United Nation Security Council is unable to
reach a majority consensus to eliminate the threat of mass destruction. There has been a
significant shift in the bilateral relations Between US and Europe and Russia and China on
the war on Iraq. The United States has historically been a force to influence events in the
regions outside relying on diplomacy to deal with Israeli/Palestine Conflict. On diplomacy to
deal with Israeli/Palestine Conflict Pakistan is currently a crucial ally in the war on terror as
made evident by its support in eliminating the Taliban in Afghanistan. This also implies a
possible shift in US Foreign Policy in the region against Pakistan and India. This war on
terrorism changed the entire geopolitical arena. The change has been leading to an
unpredictable future to the extent of global politics and economy.
The war against Iraq will also play a prominent role in sea change that will affect human
rights Plays in America's Future. The consequences of Terrorism have resulted in heavy
economic losses, loss of wages and have even reduced commerce and trade. The terrorist
attacks of 9/11 have even impacted specific Industries such as tourism and airlines. The war
of terror in Afghanistan, Iraq Israel-Palestine and political violence in Middle East have
witnessed the Fight of freedom of expression.
The war on terrorism has left the unpredictability of the future to the extent of questioning the
significance of global politics and economics which have impacted alteration in the lives of
people.
The world today with a small band of terrorist organisation reminds us to think about the
security breach. There have been Plethora of sources from were these organisations gets their
funding from. Enforcement of law and Intelligence agencies are requiring to destroy them
from operating.
