1 Gender and Child Protection
Under the overall guidance of the Sector Reform and Restructuring Officer, the
OIC Gender and Child Protection for the Sector will be responsible to work
towards enhancing awareness and sensitivities with regard to gender and child
protection issues. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
• Coordinate and be actively involved in all reporting and monitoring of reported
incidents involving women and children;
• Carry out in-depth analysis of the local police requirements at the functional
levels for gender and child protection for the Sector;
• Maintain close liaison with all stake holders including the local police, UN
agencies, NGOs and other partners to deal with Gender and Child Protection
issues/matters;
• Be able to comply with standard reports and special reporting when required
and the ability to obtain information in a timely manner with the use of resources
at Sector level;
• Monitor, mentor and advise the local police in order to build their capacity in
undertaking Gender and Child Protection issues;
• Supervise and monitor all the subordinates under his/her command in the
Sector;
• Perform any other duties as delegated to him/her by the authorities.
5.8.3.2 Team Site Gender and Child Protection Officer
Under the overall guidance of the team site R&R officer this officer will have the
following responsibilities:
• To establish a working relationship with the local police and other relevant
security entities to monitor, assist, advise and guide the effective investigation
mechanisms put in place to investigate and handle Sexual and Gender-Based
Violence (SGBV) cases;
• Give procedural advice to the local police and other relevant police entities and
the victims/survivors in criminal matters concerning SGBV;
• Organize educational and sensitization programmes for the community leaders
and the IDPs on gender awareness to enable them address issues relating to
human rights violation committed against women and children;
• To assist communities to set up sustainable community based activities to
protect vulnerable groups and support of survivors;
• To assist victims/survivors of GBV to seek medical and psychological and/or
other relevant support from the appropriate national authorities, national and
international Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), the United Nations (UN)
agencies and other humanitarian organizations;
• Ensure that local SGBV police investigators are handling cases reported to them
in a competent and professional manner;
• Compile accurate statistics on GBV related crimes to the Team Site;
• Carry out sensitization programmes on prevention of SGBV related crimes in
the IDP camps and the townships;
• Contribute to the welfare of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), through
cooperation with other stakeholders (i.e. other UNAMID GBV Advisors/civilian
components, national and international NGOs, UN agencies and other
humanitarian organizations) with regards to the policing concept;
• To investigate & report all matters of GoS/Movement Police non-compliance to
GBV incidents as provided for in the Mandate.
5.9.4 Gender and Child Protection Officer
This officer reports to the CPCC and is responsible for the following:
• Establishing a working relationship with the local police and other relevant
security entities to monitor, assist, advise and guide the effective investigation
mechanisms put in place to investigate and handle sexual and gender-based
violence (SGBV) cases;
• Giving procedural advice to the local police and other relevant police entities
and the victims/ survivors in criminal matters concerning SGBV;
• Organising educational and sensitization programmes for the community
leaders and the IDPs on gender awareness to enable them address issues
relating to human rights violation committed against women and children;
• Assisting communities to set up sustainable community based activities to
protect vulnerable groups and support of survivors;
• Being consistent in provision of support services such as firewood patrols,
market day escorts, with FPU protection;
• Collaborating with other organizations and agencies on the ground in providing
support;
• Assisting victims/survivors of GBV to seek medical and psychological and/or
other relevant support from the appropriate national authorities, national and
international Non-Governmental
Organizations (NGOs), the United Nations (UN) agencies and other humanitarian
organizations;
• Ensuring that local SGBV police investigators are handling cases reported to
them in a competent and professional manner;
• Compiling accurate statistics on GBV related crimes to the Team Site;
• Carrying out sensitization programmes on prevention of SGBV related crimes in
the IDP camps and the townships;
