PUNCTUATION

.? !,A
Punctuation is the right use of putting in stops while
writing. These help to clearly state the meaning of
what is being written.
Punctuation marks are :
Full stop .
Comma ,
Question mark ?
Exclamation mark ! and
Capital letters (A)
Full Stop
The full stop indicates the longest pause
and the greatest separation.
It is used at the end of a sentence.
For example: The train reached the station on
time.
COMMA
We use a punctuation mark, called a comma to show
short pause or break.
To separate a noun of address.
For example:
Chandni, put that cushion on that sofa.

May I have another glass of orange juice, please?

To separate expressions like Yes, Well

etc.
For example:
No, you can’t go out to play.
The comma is used when three words or
more parts of speech are included in the
same sentence.
For example:
I would like to visit France, America,
Egypt, Italy and Australia once in my
lifetime .

Her examination paper is neat,

to the point , systematic and
well- answered.
CAPITAL LETTERS
We always begin a sentence with a capital
letter. However, we usually end a sentence
with a full stop, question mark or an
exclamation mark.
Here are some examples:
The hen has laid many eggs.

Which school do you go to?

What a lovely flower!

The names of people, cities, countries
continents, like all proper nouns begin with
capital letters which are followed by small
letters.
For example:
Cinderella , Rapunzel ,

Mumbai, Kolkata,

Norway, Japan,

Australia, Africa,
It is also used to write the Pronoun ‘I’ .
Capital letters are used to write
Adjectives derived from proper nouns.
For example:
Chinese zodiac ,
Japanese kimono,
Indian tea, etc.
While writing titles of stories, essays, etc., we
capitalize the first letter of all the words, except
prepositions and conjunctions. P.N.- The ‘articles’
are capitalised only when they come at the
beginning of the title.
Eg-Snow White
and the Seven
Dwarfs
QUESTION MARK
It comes at the end of a sentence that asks a
question.
For example:
•Where do you live?

• Do you like burgers?

•What is that animal called ?

EXCLAMATION MARK
An exclamation mark is used after interjections and
after sentences or phrases expressing strong emotion
of joy, sorrow, excitement , surprise, regret,
gratitude, etc.
For example:
