SYNOPSIS
This project is an analysis of Chapter XI of the Motor
Vehicles Act, 1988. The primary purpose of the act was to
regulate all aspects of road transport vehicles. MVA, 1988 is
an act to consolidate and amend the law relating to motor
vehicles. It has provisions for traffic regulations, vehicle
insurance, registration of motor vehicles, control permits, and
penalties. In India, underneath the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988,
it is obligatory that each vehicle ought to have legitimate
insurance to drive on the road. Any vehicle used for social,
domestic, and pleasure purposes and the insurer's business
motor purpose should be insured. Motor third-party insurance
or third-party liability cover, generally mentioned as the ‘act
only’ cover, is a statutory demand below the Motor Vehicles
Act. It was referred to as a ‘third-party cover since the policy
beneficiary is someone aside from the two parties concerned
within the contract, i.e., the insured and the insurance
company. The policy does not benefit the insured, but it
covers the insured’s legal liability for death/disability of third-
party loss or injury to the third party.

 To analyse the impact of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988
in India.
 To analyse the historical background of third-party
insurance
 To understand what is third-party insurance and
salient features of third-party insurance.
 To understand of Chapter XI of Motor Vehicles
Act, 1988.
 To understand the relevant provisions of Motor
Vehicles Act, 1988.

METHODOLOGY
This project is based on Motor Vehicles Act, 1988
Which involves reading cases related to the topic and
also researching on the sections involves and working
on different case laws. It is also based on primary and
secondary data acquired from, reference books, Law
text books and articles, and also taking guidelines from
the project guide.
