WIFI (Wireless Fidelity)

Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) is a wireless networking technology that allows devices to connect to the internet without wires. It uses radio waves to provide wireless internet access in an area through wireless access points connected to a broadband internet source. Hotspots are physical locations that provide public Wi-Fi access through wireless routers connected to the internet. Common hotspot locations include hotels, restaurants, airports and coffee shops. Wi-Fi networks consist of access points, wireless cards or adapters in devices, and security measures like firewalls. The main advantages are wireless connectivity without cables, easy installation and mobility. Disadvantages include limited range, possible security risks, interference from other devices, potential health issues from radiation, and generally slower speeds than

➔ What is WI-FI?

● Wi-Fi means “Wireless Fidelity”

● Wi-Fi introduced in 21 September 1998; 22 years ago
● Wireless technology is an alternative to wired technology, which is
commonly used, for connecting devices in wireless mode.
● Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technology that allows devices such as
computers (laptops and desktops), mobile devices (smartphones), and
other equipment (printers and video cameras) to interface with the
Internet. Internet connectivity occurs through a wireless router.
➔ What is Hotspot?
● A hotspot is a physical location where people can access the Internet,
typically using Wi-Fi, via a wireless local area network (WLAN) with a
router connected to an Internet service provider.
● A hotspot is any location where wifi network access is made publicly
available.
● Hotspot are equipped with a broadband internet connection, and one or
more access points that allows users to access the internet wirelessly.
● Hotspot can be setup in any public that can support an internet
connection.
➔ WI-FI Hotspot Locations

● Hotels and Resorts

● Restaurants
● Shopping malls
● Universities
● Coffee Shops
● Airports etc.
➔ WI-FI Networks Elements

Access Point AP:- The AP is wireless transceiver or base station that can
connect one or many devices in the same time to internet.

Safeguards:- firewalls and antivirus software protect networks from uninvited

users and keeps information secure .

WI-FI Cards (Adapters):- THey accept the wireless signal and relay
information. They can be internal and external.
➔ Advantages of WIFI

● No wires -A truly wireless networking solution

● No worries- A wireless networking system that i secure, easy to manage ,
and built to grow with you .
● Ease of installations-Quick, easy setup fast data transfer rates.
● No waiting-fast, easy deployments
➔ Disadvantages of WIfI
● The limitation of WiFi network is that it provides a connection in limited
area. Its radio connectivity can't reach beyond 20 to 25 meters. When
your location is away from 25 meters you can't get access to internet or
local wireless network.
● Data security risk: a huge challenge for Wi-Fi networks.
● Interference from other device; Such as telephones, microwave ovens.
● Health Issues; Some of them are cancer, insomnia and apoptosis. Same as
the effects caused from the Microwave frequencies (EMF). And also it is
advised for pregnant womens, not to get exposed to the Wifi signals as it
releases Electromagnetic radiations.
● Speed; The speed of a Wifi connections are far more slower than a wired
connection (around 1-54 Mbps).
