MT.OLYMPUS
Chief Officer and Pump Man as my supervisor. Chief officer told me that I will learn with pump man
 Collision drill ( 7 short blast and one long blast )
under his order for 3 month.
 Grounding drill ( 7 short blast and one long blast )
But, before I learn with pump man, the first thing that I do is“SAFETY FAMILIARIZATION “.
 Main engine & steering failure ( 7 short blast and one long blast )
Every new crew that have on board to the ship, they must do the safety familiarization. The purpose

 Fire drill (prepare hose, portable extinguisher and closed all door)

 Oil & bunker spill drill (closed all scupper plug)

 Grounding drill (Assist 3rd engineer take sounding)

 Rescue drill ( Assist as required )

After the familiarization, I continue to follow pump man. All that I do is maintaining the deck,

Such as, painting, chipping, cleaning, etc. While the maintaining I learn many things in deck with pump

man, such as :

 Manifold : Manifold used to connect the hose or loading arm between shore and ship when

loading/discharging connected with reducer. The size of reducer varies depending

on the hose to be installed. This manifold is where the cargo passes.

 Cargo pipe: Cargo pipe is the pipe that the cargo passes to the cargo tank.

 Cargo tank: Cargo tank is where the cargo is loading. There are 6 cargo tanks in MT. OLYMPUS I,
2 slop tanks, and 1 residual tank

 Cargo pump: Cargo pump is the pump that used to suck the cargo out of the cargo tank.

The pump that used in MT. OLYMPUS I is framo pump. The framo cargo pump is a

vertical single-stage centrifugal pump powered by a hydraulic motor for safe

and efficient operation.

 Mooring line: Mooring line is use to safe the ship’s position in the port. The mooring line that

use is 4*2. 4 head line, 4 stern line, and 2 spring line.

Also I learn about the machinery on deck such as :

 Crane : Crane used to lifting the heavy object on deck, such as cargo hose,

reducer, pipe, etc.

 Winch : A winch is a marine deck equipment device for handling wires or ropes
and works by spooling the wire or rope on a drum with horizontal axis.
The winch can be powered by electric or hydraulic motor. Winch that used
in MT.OLYMPUS I powered by a hydraulic system. There are 7 which in
MT. OLYMPUS I.

 Windlass : A windlass is a machine used on ships that used to let-out and heave-up
the anchor.
