Statistics and Probability: Midterm Project 1 & 2

This document contains a student's statistics midterm project analyzing the academic standing of grade 11 students in online classes last term. It includes a sample data set with 45 observations of students' average grades. It calculates the sample mean, variance, and standard deviation. It then estimates confidence intervals for the true population mean at 90%, 95%, and 99% confidence levels. The interval ranges get wider as the confidence level increases, reflecting lower certainty as confidence decreases. Graphs are provided to visualize the confidence intervals.

PART2
1. Using the same data from Part 1, compute the point estimate (sample
mean) and standard deviation, and answer the following:
a. Estimate the Parameters using a 90% confidence level.
-What is the Margin of Error?
-What is the Lower Limit?
-What is the Upper Limit?
-What is the Interval Estimate?
b. Estimate the Parameters using a 95% confidence level.
-What is the Margin of Error?
-What is the Lower Limit?
-What is the Upper Limit?
-What is the Interval Estimate?
c. Estimate the Parameters using a 99% confidence level.
-What is the Margin of Error?
-What is the Lower Limit?
-What is the Upper Limit?
-What is the Interval Estimate?
2. Sketch its graph and indicate the proper label.
3. Explain what happens to the range of values of the Interval Estimate when
using different Confidence Levels.
1. Using the same data from Part 1, compute the point estimate (sample
mean) and standard deviation, and answer the following:
Point Estimate (Sample Mean) = 85.6
Standard Deviation = 2.50
Sample Size = 2
a. Estimate the Parameters using a 90% confidence level.
-What is the Margin of Error? 2.91
ơ
E=2𝑎 2 ( )

.
E = 1.645 ( )
√ .

E = 1.645 (1.77)
E = 2.91165
What is the Lower Limit? 82.69
x̅ - E
= 85.6 - 2.91
= 82.69
What is the Upper Limit? 88.51
x̅ + E
= 85.6 + 2.91
=88.51
What is the Interval Estimate?
82.69< µ <88.51

b.) Estimate the Parameters using a 95% confidence level.

What is the Margin Error? 3.47
ơ
E=2𝑎 2( )

.
E = 1.96 ( )
√ .

E = 1.96 (1.77)
E = 3.4692
What is the Lower Limit? 82.13
x̅ - E
= 85.6 – 3.47
= 82.13
What is the Upper Limit? 89.07
x̅ + E
= 85.6 + 3.47
= 89.07
What is the Interval Estimate?
82.13< µ < 89.07

c) Estimate the Parameters using a 99% confidence level.

What is the Margin Error? 4.56
ơ
E=2𝑎 2( )

.
E = 2.576 ( )
√ .

E = 2.576 (1.77)
E = 4.55952
What is the Lower Limit? 81.04
x̅ - E
= 85.6 – 4.56
= 81.04
What is the Upper Limit? 90.16
x̅ + E
= 85.6 + 4.56
= 90.16
What is the Interval Estimate?
81.04< µ < 90.16

3. Explain what happens to the range of values of the Interval Estimate when
using different Confidence Levels.
- The confidence level of the confidence interval indicate the probability of the
range of the true population parameter of the distribution of samples.

It tells that the confidence of interval seize that the true population of
parameter given a distributio
distribution of the samples.

When the confidence level increases, the value of the interval estimate will
increase and consequently, the margin of error increases.
