Regression Analysis
In statistical modeling, regression analysis is a set of statistical processes for estimating the
relationships among variables. It includes many techniques for modeling and analyzing several
variables, when the focus is on the relationship between a dependent variable and one or
more independent variables . More specifically, regression analysis helps one to understand how
the typical value of the dependent variable changes when any one of the independent variables is
varied, while the other independent variables are held fixed.

Simple Linear Regression
The relationship between the response(Dependent) variable Y and the input(Independent) variable x
specified in the equation is called a simple linear regression.
We have two kinds of regression lines
(i) Line y on x
Suppose that the value of the independent variable is set to equal x. Let Y denote the resulting value of the
dependent variable. The simplest type of relationship between this pair of variables is a straight-line, or
linear, relation of the form
Y = a + bx
Where a(intercept) and b(slope) are regression coefficients or least square estimates.
