Capacitor Codes TechStudyCell

This document provides a table that lists ceramic capacitor codes and their corresponding capacitance values in picofarads (pF), nanofarads (nF), and microfarads (μF). It explains that most common capacitor codes use a first digit, second digit, and multiplier scheme to indicate value. It also lists some common tolerance codes used at the end of the capacitor code.

Calculating some capacitor codes

 The most common capacitor code uses a first digit, second digit, and multiplier scheme:

Example: 223J = 22 x 103 pF = 22 nF = .022 μF 5% Tolerance

151K = 15 x 101 pF = .15 nF = .00015 μF 10% Tolerance

 Occasionally capacitors will have the value listed very plainly:

Example: 47 pF = 47 pF
4p7 = 4.7 pF
Conversions:
Common Tolerance Codes:
F 1%
G 2% pF / 1000 = nF nF x 1000=pF
nF / 1000 = μF μF x 1000=nF
J 5%
K 10%
M 20%
Z +80% / -20%
