The current COVID-19 pandemic already affected every one of us. However,
based on our position as people and as members of society, the effects of the pandemic
and its repercussions are felt differently. While some are attempting to transition to
online jobs, homeschooling their kids, and ordering food via Foodpanda, some have no
alternative but to be vulnerable to the virus while preserving the community's
functioning. These are not the consequences of having this pandemic, but it also
lessens the creation of new technologies. Many sciences, space and technology
institutions, and government agencies worldwide have been affected by the COVID-19
pandemic, leading to reduced productivity in several fields and programs. According to
(Korbel & Stegle 2020), the lives of scientists were also affected by this pandemic which
49% of scientists reported that during the COVID-19 outbreak, their research hours
were reduced. Many indicated that they use the shutdown times to devote more time to
data analysis (43%), manuscript or thesis writing (45%), or developing grant
applications (11 %).
Science, Technology, and Society (STS) is an interdisciplinary area that explores
the circumstances under which scientific information and technical processes are
developed, transmitted, and used, and the impact of these practices on various people.
STS draws on the history and philosophy of science and technology, sociology and
anthropology, political sciences, cultural and literary studies, and form the field's
research techniques. The intercollegiate curriculum integrates courses offered in
several departments and is split into three major areas: science and Technology history,
science and technology theory. It is divided into three major areas: the history of
science and Technology, Science and Technology theory, and attitudes to Technology
and science in social science. Courses explore the effect of research and Technology
on society and community; the politics of socio-technical systems; science policy in
national and foreign contexts; social and environmental threats vs. benefits of
technological and scientific advancement; and, more precisely, cover issues such as
pollution, political economy, the innovation laboratory culture, theories of technical and
scientific advancement.
Science, Technology, and Society play a significant role in mitigating the COVID-
19. Finding the cure for this issue is a great responsibility for the scientist. Science is
used to discover the cure for the disease. Technology is used to create and develop the
treatment. Society will benefit from the treatment. In general, when put together, the
three aspects can make a possible outcome that will help find the solution to the
problem. To take action or to put things into place, science and technology must be put
together and be in unison so that it will create a good impact and result on the
environment/society.
