Torque Converter and Transmission Oil Sample - Obtain

Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot
oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Obtain S·O·S samples as close as possible to the recommended sampling interval. In order to receive the full
effect of S·O·S analysis, you must establish a consistent trend of data. In order to establish a pertinent history of
data, perform consistent samplings that are evenly spaced. Supplies for collecting samples can be obtained from
your Caterpillar dealer.
1. Prepare the machine for maintenance. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Prepare the Machine
for Maintenance".

2. Obtain a sample of the transmission and torque converter oil through sampling valve (1). Take the oil
sample when the engine is operating at an idle.
3. Submit the sample for S·O·S analysis.
