3. DISCONNECT THE FRONT OR INTERMEDIATE PRO-
PELLER SHAFT, AND REAR PROPELLER SHAFT.
1. Put the match marks on the flanges and yokes.
2. Remove nuts and bolts.

6. Remove the four bolts and nuts, then remove the
center bearing plate, cushion rubber and collars.
7. Remove the center bearing from the shaft.
NOTE: Remove the center bearing on the intermedi-
ate propeller shaft in the same procedure as
above.

2. REMOVE THE UNIVERSAL JOINT SPIDER.
1. Using snap ring pliers, remove the retainer rings from
the groove.
WARNING
The retainer ring is spring steel and may pop out
from the groove. Wear safety glasses to protect your
eyes.

3. CHECK THE UNIVERSAL JOINT RELATED PARTS FOR
WEAR AND DAMAGE. IF THERE IS ANY, REPLACE IT.
1. Galling and cracks on the spider journal.
2. Damage and wear of the seal lip in the bearing cage.
3. Galling and cracks on the needle rollers.
4. Wear, damage and cracks on the thrust washers.

4. INSPECT THE CENTER BEARING FOR WEAR AND
DAMAGE.
1. Check that the bearing turns smoothly. If damaged
or worn, or if it does not turn smoothly, replace the
bearing.
2. Check the seal lip in the bearing case, if damaged or
worn replace the case.
NOTE: Do not immerse the bearing seals in clean-
ing fluid.

5. CHECK THE CUSHION RUBBER AND RELATED PARTS
FOR WEAR AND DAMAGE. IF THERE IS ANY, RE-
PLACE IT.
1. Wear and damage on the cushion rubber.
2. Bent cushion rubber plates.

6. ASSEMBLING THE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
AND FLANGE COUPLING
1. Since the coupling has to be fitted in a warm state,
heat the coupling to 90 - 100°C with hot water or oil.
When heating the coupling with oil, make sure the
temperature of the oil never exceeds 120°C.
2. Line up the flange coupling and shaft match marks,
and then insert the flange coupling over the shaft
spline.

pared for that purpose.
Special tool: Socket wrench (09839-4104)
Tightening torque: 6,000 - 8,000 kg·cm
(434 - 578 lb·ft)
