How To Use Zoom

Getting Started

- www.zoom.us
- Create account
- Download app - easiest
Host Meeting
- “New meeting” - orange camera icon
- Click join with computer audio
Join Meeting
- Click join icon (blue plus sign in a box) on home tab of zoom app
- Must enter meeting id and password
Audio

- Join with computer audio


- Mute
- ^ = different types of audio
- If you’re using a special speaker, this is where you would go between the speaker and
traditional computer audio
Video
- Stop video
- Turns off camera - don’t want to show face
- Does not change audio or end meeting
Security
- This tell you what your meeting attendees will be able to do
- Share screen (usually do NOT want them to share screen without permission)
- Chat (chat ok, see chat slide to further manage)
- Rename
- Unmute (usually do NOT want them to unmute without permission)
- Start video (always allow, unless they are misbehaving and you need to disable)
Manage Participants
- Individually or collectively
- Mute/unmute, turn off video
- Mute/unmute all
- More → Mute participants on entry
Invite

- Invite people to your meeting


- Icon person with plus sign
- Can use contacts on computer or email
- “Copy url”
- Does not include meeting password (bottom right) which must be copied as well
- “Copy invitation” includes url, meeting id, and password
Chat
- Share files
- … icon - choose WHO participants can chat with
- Restricts students from chatting with each other but allows them to chat a teacher for help
- OPTIONS:
- No one
- Host only
- Everyone publicly
- Everyone publicly and privately
Screen Share

- Desktop
- Whiteboard
- Specific area of screen
- IMPORTANT: if you share a video with sound you must enable sound sharing
- Before clicking where you will be sharing (most likely “desktop”), check the “share sound” box
at bottom left.
- If you are already sharing your screen but need to share sound, look for black toolbar at top of
screen (may need to wiggle mouse). On the right click “more” (3 dots icon) and near the
bottom of the drop down menu click “share sound.”
Annotate (During screen share)

- Look for black toolbar at top of screen (may need to wiggle mouse) again. Second from the right click
“Annotate.”
- Viewer can also annotate on your screen by going to the top of screen, clicking “view options” and
“annotate.”
- Mouse
- return to this function whenever you need to maintain control over normal operations such as
moving a page up and down or moving the position of a document
- Select
- Click and drag to make a shaded box around an area of screen
- Text
- Click to add text box and begin typing
- Note: cannot be moved once placed
- Draw - various types of lines
- Doodle (scribble)
- Straight line
- Highlight (thicker scribble)
- Arrow
Annotate (During screen share) cont.

- Stamp
- 6 choices
- Spotlight
- Makes it easier to follow along and locate the mouse of shared screen
- Eraser
- Click line/drawing/stamp to erase
- Format
- Change font color, type, size etc. in a text box
- Cannot edit typing once done and click elsewhere
- Undo
- Delete last annotation
- Redo
- Brings back last deleted annotation
Annotate (During screen share) cont.

- Clear
- Clear all drawings
- Erases both your and viewer’s annotations
- Clear my drawings
- Erases only your drawings, leaves viewer’s if any
- Clear viewer’s drawings
- Erases only viewer’s drawings, leaves yours if any
- Save
- Save screenshot of annotation
Record
- Target icon
- Records what happens on screen
- After ending meeting, automatically saves as shareable file on desktop
Reactions
- Clap
- Thumbs up
- Shows up on screen while other people are talking
- Easy way to let the host know how you’re feeling
Break Out Rooms
- Enable breakout rooms in settings
- Assign groups automatically or manually
- Can edit after automatic group
- Choose number of rooms
- Options:
- Timed room
- Countdown
- Host can join any room
- Close all rooms
- Broadcast message
Wrapping up
- “End meeting” on bottom right
- Leave meeting - you leave but meeting continues for everyone else
- End meeting for all - closes meeting on everyone’s screens
