Assignment 4 Abstract

This document discusses pre-engineered buildings and their advantages over traditional construction methods. Pre-engineered buildings are constructed off-site and can be erected quickly. They allow for more innovative designs compared to traditional buildings and are more cost effective. The document compares the design of an industrial shed using both conventional steel building techniques and pre-engineered building concepts.

Pre - Engineered Buildings - The Latest Trend in Building Construction

P. Pravin Kumar Venkat Rao

Abstract: This paper aims to give a brief introduction to the growth and development of any industry
depends on its infrastructure. Infrastructure development has lead to requirement of setting up
industrial structures that are not only strong and durable, but can be set up within a short time span.
In order to build a building that is strong, durable, and is quick to construct and practically possible
to plan and implement, then pre engineered buildings are the answer. In the current construction
scenario, the one who constructs strong structures with minimum use of resources is the one in
demand. That is why; builders who are in the business of pre engineered buildings are in high
demand. As the name suggests, these buildings are pre manufactured at the manufacturer’s premise.
They are not that complicated to build as compared to the traditional buildings and can be easily
designed and implemented in practicality. The method thus followed in the construction of pre-
engineered buildings is time efficient and cost effective. These buildings can be innovatively designed
without bothering about how they will be constructed. This is so because; the building components
are made mainly with the help of sophisticated machines. This enables enough freedom in the hands
of building designers to think out of the box and come up with extraordinary new and innovative
designs. In this project, an attempt is made to discuss the concept of Pre-Engineered Building, its
construction system, benefits, applications and difference between pre-engineered building and
conventional steel building. In this paper, industrial shed has been designed (only primary framing
members) using conventional steel building. concept and PEB concept and the comparison of design
results of that structure had been carried out in details. This perspective helps in better explaining
why growing number of prominent international contractors and designers, who previously specified
conventional structural steel buildings exclusively, have recently converted to the pre-engineered
building approach.
