I- OBJECTIVES

III- PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of attendance
B. Developmental Activities
Review: The teacher will ask the students, what
have you learned in our past lesson last Monday.
C. Motivation
The teacher will conduct a game called 'charade'. In this game
there will be 2 groups. A member will get a piece of paper in the
bowl, act the given word and let his/her group members to
guess the word.
D. Activity
The teacher will group the class into two groups. Each group
will be given puzzled letter to make it a word. The teacher will
give 2 minutes to finish the given task. The group who will
finish first will get a prize.

E. Analysis
1. How did you find the activity?

3. Can you guess what will be our topic for today?
F. Abstraction
The teacher will present and discuss the lesson:
Connotation- is the emotional or cultural meaning
attached to a word.
Denotation- is the dictionary meaning of a word. The
literal meaning of a word.
Examples of Connotation
1. I was really feeling blue after she told me she was leaving.
2. He is like a father to me.
3. I will never trust him. He is a snake.
Examples of Denotation
1. She bought a blue dress for her mom’s birthday.
2. My father is a loving and hardworking man.
3. Dave saw a huge snake under his bed.
G. Application
The teacher will divide the class into two groups, the same
group in the first activity. The group will pick one piece of paper
containing a word (DENOTATION AND CONNOTATION). The
teacher will present words and each group will give example by
making a sentence according to what they have picked whether its
denotation or connotation. The 1 st group who can correctly give
examples will be declared the winner.
H. Generalization
The teacher will ask the following questions as a quick review to
the topic:
1. What is Connotation?
2. What is Denotation?
3. Why it is important to study connotation and denotation?
IV- Evaluation
Identify whether the underlined word in the sentence is denotation
or connotation.
1. This shirt is cheap enough for me to afford.
That shirt was so cheap, it pilled in a matter of weeks.
