Install SolverTable for Excel 2007

SolverTable instructions

This version of SolverTable works for Excel 2007 but not Excel 2003 or earlier.
(SolverTable for Excel 2003 and earlier is still available at
http://www.kelley.iu.edu/albrightbooks.)

To install SolverTable, use the following steps.

1. Unzip the SolverTable.zip file to a folder of your choice. I recommend creating


a SolverTable folder under the application "library" folder and unzipping to this
folder. It would be

c:\program files\microsoft office\office12\library\solvertable

However, any folder will do.

2. Get into Excel, click on the Office button, then on Excel Tools, then on Add-
Ins, then on Go at the bottom of the page. First, make sure the Solver item is
checked, since SolverTable can't work without it. (If Solver isn't in the list, it
must not have been installed when you or your tech services group installed Office.
You'll need to install Solver from the Office setup program.)

3. There probably is not a SolverTable item on the list of add-ins, so you need to
Browse for it. Browse to the folder you unzipped to in step 1 and select the
SolverTable.xlam file. This will add a SolverTable item to the list of add-ins.
Make sure this item is checked, and close out of the add-ins dialog box.

4. You can then use SolverTable by selecting it from Excel's Add-Ins ribbon.

Note: If there was already a SolverTable item in the list of add-ins, it could have
been left over from a previous install. In this case, it is still a good idea to
Browse for the current version, as explained in step 3. In fact, you might want to
search your hard drive for all copies of Solver.xlam and delete all but the current
one. I've seen students with multiple copies of SolverTable in various folders on
their hard drive. This can only cause confusion and problems.
