IRC 16-2008 Prime Coat Tack Coat Specification

This document outlines specifications for prime and tack coats used on road surfaces. It provides definitions and objectives of prime coats, which are used to seal and bond granular bases before overlaying with asphalt. Cationic bitumen emulsion or medium-curing cutback bitumen can be used as primers. Application rates vary depending on the base type. Tack coats are used between asphalt layers to ensure bonding and are not a substitute for prime coats. The document lists materials, equipment, construction methods, and quality control requirements for applying prime and tack coats on road pavements.
