CALC TECH (Draft)

The document provides techniques for using a Casio FX-570ES Plus calculator to solve various mathematics problems. It outlines 11 techniques for solving equations with shift+solve, finding quadratic roots, solving systems of linear equations, calculating terms in arithmetic and geometric progressions, working with complex numbers, performing polar-rectangular conversions, and evaluating limits. The techniques generally involve selecting a mode or form and then inputting values, coefficients, and terms before using the equal sign to calculate results.

TECHNIQUES
CASIO FX-570ES PLUS

SUBJECT:

MATHEMATICS
1. Shift + Solve Technique
 Input the equation
 Press shift + solve (CALC) then hit equal sign

*Using Limits
 Input the equation
 Press shift + solve (CALC)
 Enter the limit you want (most probably the highest number in the choices)
 Hit the equal sign

2. Quadratic Equation Roots

 Press Mode + 5
 Press 3 (which is the standard form for quadratic equation)
 Input the coefficient of the variables (don’t forget to hit equal sign after entering
each coefficient)
 Hit equal sign once
 Hit equal sign again

3. Linear Equations; 3 Variables, 3 Unknowns

 Press Mode + 5
 Press 2 (which is the form for 3 equations 3 unknown linear equation)
 Input the coefficient of the variables (don’t forget to hit equal sign after entering
each coefficient)
 Hit equal sign once
 Hit equal sign again (to solve for y)
 Hit equal sign again (to solve for z)

4. Linear Equations; 2 Equations, 2 Unknowns

 Press Mode + 5
 Press 1 (which is the form for 2 equations 2 unknown linear equation)
 Input the coefficient of the variables (don’t forget to hit equal sign after entering
each coefficient)
 Hit equal sign once
 Hit equal sign again (to solve for y)

5. Arithmetic Progression; NTH term

 Press Mode + 3
 Press 2 (which is the form for arithmetic progression)
 Input the term on the X column and the its value on the Y column (input at least 2
given terms and values; don’t forget to hit equal sign after entering each value)
 Press AC
 Press Shift + 1 + 5 (regression)
 Press 5 (y-hat)
 Enter at the left side of the y-hat the NTH term of the required value
 Press equal sign

6. Sum of Arithmetic Progression

*Find first at what term is the last number in the given
 Press Mode + 3 + 2
 Input the first 2 terms and values (don’t forget to hit equal sign after entering each
value)
 Press AC
 Press Shift + 1 + 5
 Press 4 (x-hat; to find what term is the last number)
 Enter at the left side of the x-hat the value of the NTH term required
 Press AC
 Press Shift + Σ (log■□)
 Press Alpha + ) + Shift + 1 + 5 + 5 (y-hat)
 Press Shift + ) (comma)
 Press 1 (1st term)
 Press Shift + ) (comma)
 Enter the last term (nth term of the last number)
 Press )
 Press the equal sign
7. Geometric Progression; NTH Term
 Press Mode + 3
 Press 6 (which is the form for geometric progression)
 Input the given (don’t forget to hit equal sign after entering each value)
 Press AC
 Press Shift + 1 + 5 + 5 (y-hat)
 Enter at the left side of the y-hat the NTH term of the required value
 Hit equal sign
8. Sum of Geometric Progression
 Press Mode + 3
 Press 6 (which is the form for geometric progression)
 Input the given (don’t forget to hit equal sign after entering each value)
 Press AC
 Press Shift + 1 + 5 + 5 (y-hat)
 Move the cursor to the left of the y-hat
 Press Shift + Σ (log■□)
 Press Alpha + ) (X)
 Move the cursor to the right of the y-hat
 Press Shift + ) (comma)
 Press 1 (1st term)
 Press Shift + ) (comma)
 Press the last term (nth term of the last number)
 Press )
 Hit equal sign
9. Problems with Complex Numbers
 Press Mode + 2 (CMPLX)
 Input the problem with complex numbers
 Hit the equal sign
*Complex numbers with exponents higher than the power of 3
 Press Mode + 2 (CMPLX)
 Input the problem with complex numbers (the highest power of exponent
in order not to get MATH ERROR is 3, so factor/breakdown the equation)
 Hit the equal sign

10. Polar Conversion to Rectangular

 Press Mode + 1 (COMP)
 Press Shift + - (Rec)
 Input the expression (make sure that your calculator is in degrees if the problem is
in degrees)
 Hit the equal sign

11. Limits
 Press Mode + 2 (CMPLX)
 Input the expression/equation
 Press CALC
 Enter the closest value to the given limit (e.g. x→4, enter 3.999999)
 Hit the equal sign
*When dealing with trigonometric functions, make sure your calculator is in radian mode
