BACKGROUND.
I. Identify what are the Different Fundamental Parts of A Residential House

Architectural house plans vary depending on the type of house. They include small plans such as cabins, cottages, and narrow lot houses to
large, modern, unique, and luxuries home plans. A good plan makes it possible to build a great house. They also depend on the material to be used
for construction and building, personal preferences, location and the size of the house. (Rose, 2019)

1. Bedroom

Bedrooms are one of the most important types of rooms that you will have in a house. They can be located just about anywhere in your home.
Some homes have bedrooms on the first floor and others will have bedrooms located on the second floor. (Allan & Adkins, 2020).

According to the article Standard Size of Rooms in Residential Building in their Locations Bedrooms should be so located that they are well
ventilated and at the same time provide privacy. Generally, they should be located on the sides of the building so that at least one wall is
exposed for good ventilation and lighting. The bedroom should be located on the side of the direction of prevailing wind. The location should be
such that the bedroom receives sunlight during morning hours. The minimum window area should be 1:10th of the floor area. In bedrooms 9.5
cubic meter per adult and 5.5cubic meter per child space should be available and suitable allowance should be made for furniture.

If good water supply and drainage system is available, a bedroom should have an attached bathroom and water closet.

Standard size of bedrooms may range from: 3000mm (10ft) X 3600mm (12ft) to 4200mm (14ft) X 4800mm (16ft)

2. Living Room
For most homes, the living room is going to be considered the heart of the house. A living room is almost always going to be located on the first
floor of the home and is usually the first room that you see when entering a home. (Alan and Adkins, 2020). Living room is a common,
comfortable and attractive place for sitting of family members and to receive friends and guests. Sometime it is used as reception room and
dining room and special occasions. (“Standard Size of Rooms in Residential Building in their locations,” 2018).

3. Kitchen
According to Ria Rose, The kitchen is a room reserved for food preparation. It can be designed with more space where it can serve as a dining
area as well. A kitchen is commonly planned to have a water sink, running water, stove, and cabinets. Modern plans incorporate plans for
electronic equipment, such as refrigerators, microwave ovens, and dishwashers.

The kitchen should be provided in rear corner of the building but NE corner is the
best. It should be connected with dining room and should have one approach from
outside also. If possible, the kitchen should be so located that sun light should
come in the morning hours, when it is used most. It should have windows for good
ventilation and chimney for smoke escape. The window space should be min. of
15% of floor area. Sink should be provided for washing and sufficient number of
shelves should also be provided. Sometimes storeroom and kitchen are combined
together, if less space is available. Standard size of kitchen rooms may range from:
2500mm (8ft) X 3900mm (13ft) to 3000mm (10ft) X 3600mm (12ft) (“Standard Size
of Rooms in Residential Building in their locations,” 2018).

4. Dining Room
As mentioned earlier, a dining room should be located near the kitchen room. A dining room is situated mostly on the first floor in many homes.
Most people prefer having a dining room in an area adjacent to the kitchen. Some dining rooms are more extensive, while others are small,
depending on the number of people living in the house and the available space. Some prefer having a long narrow ornate room with long
tables. Mostly a dining room will have tables and chairs (Rose, 2019).

In modern houses drawing room and dining room are combined to have a big room for special occasions.

5. Bathrooms
A complete architectural house plan incorporates a bathroom that is used for cleaning purposes by the occupants. The design and size varies as
a matter of personal style and cultural practices. It is always built in proportional to the size of the house. Commonly, bathrooms contain the
following items: a sink, shower, bathtub, and a toilet (or "lavatory"). They can be decorated and fitted with décor items, such as attractive
ceilings, walls and flooring materials, glass and mirrors (Rose, 2019).

According to the Standard Size of Rooms in Residential Building in their locations, there should be two
Toilet
windows in a bathroom. One for ventilation at a height of 2000mm above outside ground level and
another at usual low level with frosted glass shutters for admitting light and maintaining privacy.
Sometimes ceiling height is kept low (2100mm or 7ft) and upper space is used for storage purpose

II. What are the 3 zones for residential planning? Residential, Commercial, and Industrial

Residential Zoning

Residential zones can include:

• Single Family Residences (SFR)

• Suburban Homesteads (SH)
• Any number of other designations, including homes, apartments, duplexes, trailer parks, co-ops, and condominiums

Residential zoning can cover issues such as whether mobile homes can be placed on the property and the number of structures allowed on a certain
property.

Zoning laws typically limit the type of animals allowed at a residence. Domestic pets such as dogs, birds, and cats are generally not regulated, but
chickens, sheep, horses, llamas, pigs, and cows are subject to certain requirements. Many laws prohibit keeping these farm animals in residential
neighborhoods. Others limit the number of animals based on the size of the property (“Types of Zoning”, 2020).

Commercial Zoning

Commercial zoning usually has several categories and depends on the business use of the property, and often the number of business patrons. Almost
any kind of real estate (other than single-family home and single-family lots) can be considered commercial real estate. Examples of commercial
zoning include:

• Office buildings
• Shopping centers
• Nightclubs
• Hotels
• Certain warehouses
• Some apartment complexes as well as vacant land that has the potential for development into these types of buildings

The availability of parking may affect the type of commercial zoning that is allowed. Additionally, there can be rules regarding the proximity of certain
types of businesses to others. Many zoning laws ban or limit adult entertainment establishments to a certain geographical area. Others bar such types
of land uses within a certain distance of existing schools or churches (“Types of Zoning”, 2020).

Industrial Zoning

Like commercial zoning, industrial zoning can be specific to the type of business.

Environmental factors, including noise concerns and industrial use, determine into

which industrial zone a business falls. Manufacturing plants and many storage facilities have industrial zoning. Certain businesses like airports may have
their own designation.

Industrial zoning often depends on the floor area ratio (which is the land area covered by all buildings on a lot) and building height. Additionally, set-
back requirements are higher for industrial zoned properties (“Types of Zoning”, 2020).

III. What is Ergonomics?

Ergonomics is the process of designing or arranging

workplaces, products and systems so that they fit the
people who use them. Ergonomics applies to the
design of anything that involves people – workspaces,
sports and leisure, health and safety. Ergonomics (or
‘human factors’ as it is referred to in North America)
is a branch of science that aims to learn about human
abilities and limitations, and then apply this learning
to improve people’s interaction with products,
systems and environments. Ergonomics aims to
improve workspaces and environments to minimize
risk of injury or harm. So as technologies change, so
too does the need to ensure that the tools we access
for work, rest and play are designed for our body’s
requirements (“What is Ergonomics?” 2018).
