REQUIRED TO MAKE USE OF HEADINGS, PARAGRAPHS AND SUBSECTIONS AS APPROPRIATE, AND ALL WORK MUST BE SUPPORTED WITH RESEARCH AND
REFERENCED USING THE HARVARD REFERENCING SYSTEM. PLEASE ALSO PROVIDE A BIBLIOGRAPHY USING THE HARVARD REFERENCING SYSTEM. THE

ASSIGNMENT SCENARIO AND GUIDANCE
SCENARIO
The economy of the country is growing at a steady pace, enabling different sectors of the country to grow as well. According to
Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE), five sectors in the country have outperformed other sectors in past few years. The sectors which
have attained good growth include Textile, Automotive, Energy/Petroleum, Chemicals and Fertilizers and FMCG.

Select any industry of your interest and research on the different types of enterprises operating in it. Select one organisation
from this industry to focus on and compare. You will be required to conduct primary research on this organisation at least, and
primary and/or secondary research on other different type of entrepreneurial ventures from the same industry. Identify
organisations that have a unique selling point in their products/services, something that separates them from the typical
products/services being offered. The research will aim to compare the different ventures within their different environments
and their impact on different levels of the economy.
TASK 1 - (LO1) – GUIDANCE
You will prepare a comprehensive report on your chosen organisation, for which you will be required to visit its office/site(s) in
the city, explore its products and/or services. You can use primary research such as interviews of the staff and customers or a
small survey to find out about its salient and differentiating features. Classify it as a specific type of entrepreneurial venture.
Identify other local/international such set-ups in the country with the same product/service range but belonging to a different
category of entrepreneurial ventures. Explain how they relate to the typology of entrepreneurship. Then go on to explaining the
similarities and differences between the selected entrepreneurial ventures.
It is important to understand and classify these ventures as belonging to the public and/or private sector. Many ventures in
different industries would be easily identified as private sector enterprises. However, it will be a challenge to locate many
organisations in the public sector in any industry. After identifying the many organisations in your chosen industry in Pakistan,
figure out how they differ from each other. The difference can be sought on the basis of their operations, impact on the
economy, sales, services, associated other products/services offered, etc.
Conduct an in-depth analysis of the scope, development and growth of start-ups in Pakistan, by looking at the success and
failure rate of the contemporary start-ups, including those discussed above. It is important to use statistical data to justify your
conclusions.
TASK 2 - (LO3 AND LO4) – GUIDANCE
Formulate a report/briefing on “The Mind-set of The Entrepreneur”. Determine the traits, skills and resources of successful
entrepreneurs that differentiate them from other managers. Does risk-taking and aggressiveness of entrepreneurs affect their
success factor? Study the entrepreneurs of the few ventures researched earlier and apply these traits on them. Also, apply
these determined traits on the founder of your selected enterprise. A meet and greet session with any small-business enterprise
founder can be arranged for the students by the centre to learn from his experience and success story. A short Q&A assembly
will follow this session to allow students to gather relevant data for their use.
In addition, examine how background and experience can hinder or foster entrepreneurship. Support your account with
examples from the stated industry and beyond. You can study one local entrepreneur, one global entrepreneur, and one social
enterprise. These can be preferably from the same stated industry or any other.
TASK 3 – (LO2) – GUIDANCE
How do entrepreneurial ventures affect the country’s economy? Gather and analyse relevant data to assess such impact in
Pakistan, especially making a connection to the stated industry. How do small businesses and business start-ups affect the social
economy? Identify any entrepreneurial ventures from the stated industry that form part of the social economy. What is their
impact on the social economy? Evaluate the impact of these ventures on the economy.
