NAME: GASTA, CHRISTINE V.
YEAR&SEC: II BSED MATH A
Module 1 Lesson 1
Item no. 5: Student’s work should always be given a grade or mark.
Explanation:
This statement is only true when student's work is required to be graded or marked
such as in summative situations. However, having a mark on student work when it is actually
a formative assessment is a mistake. Other examples are typical performance assessments
that include measures such as personality questionnaires and behavioral questionnaires. They
have no right or wrong answers, but rather look at values, preferences, and motivations. As
soon as students see a grade on a piece of work whether a letter or numerical value, the focus
is immediately taken off of any meaningful feedback. Then, in the student’s mind, that piece
of work is complete although it is just a starting point of the lesson. No matter what the
teacher intends grades imply a finality that’s hard to overcome in students’ minds.
Item no. 6: Assessment is the responsibility of program coordinators/supervisors.
Explanation:
Judging the quality of the student's performance either measures of ability or levels of
motivation are not only the responsibility of supervisors or program coordinators but
primarily of the teachers. With that being said, the function and purpose of assessment is to
measure a learner’s knowledge, understanding, skills, and standard of learning. The aim of
the assessment is to confirm that a learner has gained knowledge and can prove their
competencies and skills. This is the reason why the teacher is prominently responsible for the
assessment since the knowledge and learning gained by the learners are based on the teacher's
scope of teaching. Furthermore, the assessment generally affects the effectiveness of the
teaching method of a teacher.
On point for the two items above.
Module 1 Lesson 2
1. A twelve-year old out-of-school youth who stopped during the fourth grade took a test
given by the Department of Education to go back to formal schooling. The test determines the
grade or year level appropriate for the learner.
Explanation:
The assessment that determines the grade or year level appropriate for the learner is a
selection or placement test. When a learner stopped a grade or year level in school, the
assessment as selection or placement assesses whether he possesses pre-requisite skills
needed in the grade or year level he will be assigned. The assessment also determines what
level the learner appropriately be placed.
2. Every year, a national normed assessment is given to grade 3 pupils in English, Math and
Science.
Explanation:
A national normed assessment that is given to specific students to test their
knowledge on specific subjects is assessment as program evaluation or accountability. It
actually evaluates how the program affects the student's understanding and knowledge. The
Grade 3 students are assessed on their subjects to know that the programs implemented in the
school are effective or not. Thus, it holds individuals, teachers, or schools accountable for
performance and inform parents, policy makers, and the public about the extent to which
students and schools are meeting external standards for performance.
On point for the two items above.
Module 2 Lesson 1
4. Outcome: Propose ways to enhance sports related to projectile motion.
Assessment Method: Selected-response
Explanation:
The assessment method which is selected-response assessment does not match in
proposing ways to enhance sports related to projectile motion. The process of selected-
response assessment is students need to select from the given choices but proposing ways is
more on detailed description and presentation of facts. Therefore, the correct method in
assessing this given goal is in an essay form that is constructed subjectively by the students.
In providing their answers, the goal of which ways are proposed will be attain.
The highlighted part can be improved for better understanding.
5. Outcome: Conduct an investigation to provide evidence that plants can manufacture their
own food.
Assessment Method: Performance assessment
Explanation:
Providing evidence requires actual experimentation so I think performance
assessment matches the goal of investigation to provide data that plant can manufacture their
own food. The process of plants manufacturing their own food is called photosynthesis which
needs demonstration and proper observation of the plants. The performance assessment
involved in this given outcome goal is getting on a regular basis observation in a class or at
home. Thus, it proposes students to be physically involved in conducting an observation or
experiment and it requires the students to perform the given task in order for them to have an
actual evidence or proof that plants can really manufacture their own food.
Good point.
6. Outcome: Demonstrate the generation of electricity by movement of a magnet through a
coil.
Assessment Method: Essay
Explanation:
Demonstrating how electricity is generated by the movement of a magnet through a
coil better illustrates in a diagram where students can subjectively label the functions or
process of generating electricity. The essay only illustrates the long process but a better
alternative method to meet the outcome goal of this given situation is through a visual
interpretation of the process. Through this method, the students would really understand the
concept and be properly assessed because of how they would locate every part and instill in
their mind how it works.
You have a point. But come to think of this, would it better if the students would
actually demonstrate the task?
