THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ONLINE SCHOOLING
TO STUDENTS IN MAINTAINING QUALITY EDUCATION
Chapter I
INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Education is definitely the most important thing we must obtain in this world of ours. It will be
our best weapon to face the reality of the world. Education also have different forms when it comes to
rendering it to anyone of every status in life. Education doesn’t look on the economic status of an
individual because whoever have the drive to learn is legible to learn in education.
The different form of education can be seen into what we called home-based education, online
education, self-education, distance learning and the face to face education. And in the modern education
system of our country and world, we always compete to quality education and how to maintain it.
Education is an essential needs of anyone to be able to compete to our world. And from the time being it
is one of the given identification of the norms of the many civilization, dynasties and empires. The so-
called scholars and keep by the hierarchy to maintain the stability of an empire.
As our world transform, the education and its application and implementation became stagnant
for quite some time and be somehow maintain its stereotypical approach to community. And the arrival
of the well-known philosophers such as J. Dewey, J.J Rousseau, M. Montessori and many more, slowly
transform the form of education. From the teacher-centered type of education it gradually become
student-centered type of education. This transformation was easily accepted by the community since
many of the known scholars were learned in the process whereas the professors and the teachers pattern
the education similar and the format of education is a total upgrade or promotional type. The
implementation of the new philosophy where discussed to be in the spiral form of education and the
implementation weren’t that accepted easily.
In the entrée of the 19th and 20th century makes education in the transformative years and it is
challenging that the educators have to maintain the quality of education and assure the learning of every
learners became useful in the future aspects.
Through the years, this quality education maintained its status throughout and this education was
applied in different forms. In other countries these several types of education were seen in different
forms. There we have distance learning, online learning, home-based schooling, tutorials, modular
schooling, alternative learning, informal education, blended education system and regular classroom set-
up. For quite some reason, these types of education system were not all available in the Philippines and
only few families were able to accommodate this education system. Because aside from its high
standards of results it is expensive and required internet connectivity or accepted reasons.
Hence, in the year 2020, whereas the entire humanity suffers the threat of COVID 19, many
were forced to do apply this method of learning. Of course, since the Philippines were not used to this
type of education, many were shocked and puzzled on how to go in the flow of education in this manner.
The nationwide adjustment of classes were immediately implemented and all the school activities were
cancelled. Even the world-wide sports conferences were also cancelled. Somewhat the education
department made some actions to continue the education system in the country and embracing all the
asynchronous learning style were implied, imposed and implemented to the country.
As of the moment, many are still questioning the effectiveness of online classes and online
schooling and modular classes and the like. The credibility of the learning schemes were questioned yet
both Department of Education and Commission on Higher Education remain steadfast in the appealing
to people and imposing that retention of quality education of the Filipino students.
This research will find proof about the effectiveness of the online education can maintain the
quality of education that were used to during the normal days. Since according to my deeper reading
about education done in other countries many were became successful and can coup up with those
people who finishes study in formal education. This paper will diminished the walls and errands of
online schooling is not the same to regular schooling in gaining quality education.
Statement of the Problem
This study generally aimed to determine how the students of Oriental Mindoro National High
School manage to gain and maintain quality education even through online schooling media.
Specifically, it sought answers to the following questions:
1. Is there a significance difference in the level of performance in pre-test of students in online
schooling and regular schooling in maintaining the quality education?
2. Is there a significance difference in the level of performance in post-test of students in online
schooling and regular schooling in maintaining the quality education?
3. Is there a significance difference of level of performance in between of online schooling and
regular schooling in maintaining the quality education?
4. What are the evidences that shows the effectiveness of online schooling to students in
maintaining the quality education?
Statement of the Hypothesis
The study tested the following hypotheses:
1. There is no significant difference in the level of performance in Maintaining Quality Education in
Online Schooling.
Scope and Delimitation of the Study
The study focused on the effectiveness of online schooling in maintaining quality education
among students of Oriental Mindoro National High School.
Significance of the Study
The outcomes of this study would be useful to the following:
Students. This study would help the students in developing positive attitude towards
understanding fully how does online schooling could maintain the quality of education they are receiving
and can be compared to normal schooling whereas the student have the face to face interaction inside the
classroom.
Teachers. This study would guide the teachers in providing effective teaching skills in
enhancing its student’s capability and ability learn their lesson even through online media platform in
maintain quality education.
School Heads. This study would help the school heads in initiating different activities such as
webinars for teachers and providing electronic teaching and learning materials in all subjects especially
when a student is taking an online classes to maintain quality education.
Parents. Based on the results of this study, the parents of the students would be aware of the
necessary skills needed to be developed by the students to become successful in maintaining quality
education even under the online schooling scheme.
Curriculum Planners. The findings of this study would help them create a curriculum that
will be focusing on the difficulties encountered by students during online schooling and continuously
gain quality education.
Future Researchers. The findings of this study might be used as base data in conducting
related or similar studies for the betterment of the students’ performance in online schooling and
maintain quality education.
Theoretical Framework
The study was anchored on the following theories:
The theories of some of the well-known personality in the field of education proven that there
are ways in gaining quality education if imparted to the learners to make it on their own. This theory
resembles in what John Dewey once told “Learning by doing” and was supported also by a researcher
namely Enriquez, M. A of DLSU. His research Students’ Perceptions on the Effectiveness of the Use of
Edmodo as a Supplementary Tool for Learning (Enriquez, 2014), states that utilizing Virtual Learning
Environments as a supplementary tool for motivating and empowering independent learning and
innovative teaching is becoming a crucial part of a 21st century education. Edmodo is one example of
social learning site which is now being used by professors and students in many institutions of higher
learning in the country. However, there are still limited researches in the Philippines about the impact of
using Virtual Learning Environments as supplementary tools for learning.
Also, (Thangeda et al., 2016)’s Education for Sustainability: Quality Education Is A Necessity
in Modern Day. How Far the Educational Institutions Facilitate Quality Education do, stated “From
generation to generation time changes affecting culture and the way people live and their society as well.
A change in time prompts new inventions and technologies, the twenty-first century where scientific
inventions and the latest of technologies are the basis of trade. It is evident that as years go by there
comes along sophistication and need for education that fits the times that we live in arises. The transition
in the teaching system offered in educational institutions and the introduction of technology in
educational institutions are a clear indication that education has to be of certain quality to meet the
certain standards in the market.
While, in the journal “The Effectiveness of Online Learning: Beyond No Significant Difference
and Future Horizons” (Nguyen, 2015) said that The physical " brick and mortar " classroom is starting to
lose its monopoly as the place of learning. The Internet has made online learning possible, and many
researchers and educators are interested in online learning to enhance and improve student learning
outcomes while combating the reduction in resources, particularly in higher education. It is imperative
that researchers and educators consider the effectiveness of online learning compared to traditional face-
to-face format and the factors that influence the effectiveness of online courses.
Nevertheless the theory was much related to the intervention since the main goal of the material
is to enhance the learning capability of every individual student in maintaining quality education through
online schooling. The ideology of this theories describes clearly how the intervention media of learnings
will works and manipulated. As stated by the research compilation of some universities in the United
States of America (Partnerships, 2011).
On the other hand the schemes of learning can always be different once the approach changes,
yet it will always gain the same outcome if it is studied well and prepared well (Menon, 2014) and it also
stated that “Education, as a service-rendering industry, demands quality maintenance and improvement.
In India, over the past decade, management education has been observing an upward trend which is
indicated by the mushrooming of an alarmingly large number of Management Institutes and the moving
in of an ocean of students seeking management degree.”
In some ways, this theory resembles the patterns of the intervention material whereas it will have
intervention using online and even offline schemes to investigate deeper and discover deeper the
effectiveness of using the online schooling.
Lastly, this paper will resembles or even pioneered a deeper study in the gaining and
maintaining the quality education that everyone wanted to since this pandemic became uncontrollable
and put fear in everyone’s face. The facet of this paper create façade of interconnecting possibilities and
positivity that will assure to maintain quality education.

Definition of Terms
Education. The process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school
or university
Quality Education. Quality Education is one that provides all learners with capabilities they
require to become economically productive, develop sustainable livelihoods, contribute to
peaceful and democratic societies and enhance individual well-being.
Online Education. Online Education is a form of education where students use their home
computers through the internet. For many non-traditional students, among them all those who want
to continue working full time or raising families, online graduations and courses have become
popular in the past decade.
Distance Learning. A method of studying in which lectures are broadcast or classes are
conducted by correspondence or over the internet, without the student's needing to attend a
school or college. Also called distance education.
Interaction. An occasion when two or more people or things communicate with or react to each
other
Connectivity. The ability of a computer, program, device, or system to connect with one or
more others
Diversity. He practice or quality of including or involving people from a range of different
social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations.
Online Learning. Online Education is education that takes place over the Internet. It is often
referred to as “e- learning” among other terms. However, online learning is just one type of
“distance learning” - the umbrella term for any learning that takes place across distance and not
in a traditional classroom.
Curriculum. Refers to the lessons and academic content taught in a school or in a specific
course or program. In dictionaries, curriculum is often defined as the courses offered by a
school, but it is rarely used in such a general sense in schools.
Research. Research is a systematic inquiry to describe, explain, predict, and control the
observed phenomenon. Research involves inductive and deductive methods.
