Task#1: Understand and explain propagation constants in the next class.


Answer: Propagation constant measures the changes in a sinusoidal
electromagnetic wave in terms of its amplitude and phase, while propagating
through a medium.
The complex entity can be written as γ=α+iβ
Where,
𝜶, is the real part called the attenuation constant.
𝜷, is the imaginary part called phase constant

Answer:

Task#3: What is group delay?


Answer: The group delay is a measure of the time delay experienced by narrow-
band light pulses in an optical fiber.
Task#4: What is Goos-Haenchen Shift?
Answer: The Goos-Haenchen Shift is an optical phenomenon in which linerally
polarized light sustain a small lateral shift when totally internally reflected. This
shift is perpendicular to the direction of propagation in the phase containing the
incident and reflected beams.
