1.June 19,1861 June 19, 1861, Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonzo Realonda,
Philippines National Hero, was born in Calamba, Laguna to
Francisco Engracio Rizal Mercado y Alejandro and Teodora Morales
Alonzo Realonda y Quintos both of Chinese descent. Jose was the
seventh of eleven children.
2.June 22,1861 Jose was baptized by Father Rufino Collantes on June 22, 1861,
with Father Pedro Casanas as his godfather.
3.May 11,1818 On May 11, 1818, Francisco Mercado, father of the national hero
Dr. Jose Rizal, was born in Biñan, Laguna.
4.January 5,1898 On January 5, 1898, Francisco Mercado died in Manila on January
5, 1898 at the age of 80. Rizal called his father affectionately "a
model of fathers".
5.Nov. 8 1826 Doña Teodora Alonso Quintos Realonda was born on November 8,
1826 in Santa Cruz, Manila and baptized in Santa Cruz Church.
6.June 6,1868 With his father, Rizal made a pilgrimage to Antipolo to fulfill the
vow made by his mother to take the child to the Shrine of the
Virgin of Antipolo should she and her child survive the ordeal of
delivery which nearly caused his mother’s life.
From there they proceeded to Manila and visited his sister
Saturnina who was at the time studying in the La Concordia College
in Sta. Ana.
7.Year 1865 Concepcion Rizal (1862-1865) was the eight child of the Rizal
family. She died at the age of three.Jose played games and shared
children stories with her, and from her he felt the beauty of sisterly
love. When Concha died of sickness in 1865, Jose mournfully wept
at losing her.
8.Years 1871-1874 During this year Dr. Jose Rizal is still pursuing his education at the
Ateneo de Manila.
9.Year 1876 The year 1876, Rizal became an interno in his college and met
hisfavorite teacher Fr. Francisco Paula de Sanchez. Rizal receives a
Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Ateneo de Manila. He not only
receives this degree, but receives it with the highest honors
possible.
He returned to Calamba for his summer vacation (March
1876) and proudly offered his five medals and excellent
ratings to his parents.
Rizal returned to Manila in June 1876 for his last year in the
Ateneo. His studies continued to fare well. As a matter–of–
fact, he excelled in all subjects. The most brilliant Atenean of
his time, he was truly " the pride of the Jesuits".
10.June 1869 Jose Goes to Biñan
- One Sunday afternoon in June , 1869, Jose, after kissing the hands
of his parents and a tearful parting from his sister, left Calamba for
Biñan. He was accompanied by Paciano , who acted as his second
father. The two brothers rode in a carromata, reaching their
destination after one and one-half hours’ drive. They proceeded to
their aunt’s house, where Jose was to lodge. It was almost night
when they arrived, and the moon was about to rise.
11.January 20,1872 On January 20, 1872, the Cavite Mutiny, an uprising of military
personnel at the Spanish arsenal in Cavite, took place. This event
subsequently led to the execution of the Filipino priests Mariano
Gomez, Jose Burgos and Jacinto Zamora, otherwise known as
GOMBURZA.
12.February 17,1872 GOMBURZA or GomBurZa, refers to three Filipino Catholic priests
Mariano Gómez, José Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora who were
executed by garrote in 17 February 1872 in Bagumbayan,
[Philippines] by Spanish colonial authorities on charges of
subversion arising from the 1872 Cavite mutiny.
13.Year 1872 In 1872, he was admitted at the Ateneo through the help of Dr.
Manuel Xeres Burgos, a nephew of Fr. Jose Burgos, and a close
friend of Paciano. Burgos was able to convince Father Magin
Fernando to admit Rizal at Ateneo.
