Pump Control - Output

The document provides instructions for adjusting the output flow of pumps on an excavator. It describes adjusting shims and setscrews to achieve the correct flow rates in multiple stages of the pump. Turning setscrews clockwise increases flow while counterclockwise decreases flow.

Pump Control (Output Flow) - Adjust

SMCS - 3222-025-FW

Adjust the pump output flow if the flow test results differ greatly from the specifications.

Note: The procedure to adjust the output flow of the rear pump is identical to the adjustment procedure to adjust
the output flow of the front pump.

Flow Adjustment Under Constant Horsepower Control

First Stage

Adjustment of pump flow (first stage)

(1) Location of shim (front pump)

(2) Location of shim (rear pump)

Shim (1) regulates the output flow rate of the front pump during the first stage.

Shim (2) regulates the output flow rate of the rear pump during the first stage.

Add shims or remove shims in order to obtain the correct flow rate.

One shim will change the flow rate approximately 6 L/min (1.6 US gpm) at a pressure range of 14200 kPa
(2050 psi) to 20600 kPa (3000 psi).

Note: Adding one shim decreases the flow rate. Removing one shim increases the flow rate.

Thickness of one shim ... 0.1 mm (0.004 inch)

Second Stage

(3) Setscrew (front pump)

(4) Locknut (front pump)

(5) Setscrew (rear pump)

(6) Locknut (rear pump)

Setscrew (3) regulates the output flow rate of the front pump during the second stage.

1. Adjust the front pump.

a. Loosen locknut (4) .

b. Turn setscrew (3) until the output flow rate of the pump is adjusted to the correct specification.

c. Tighten locknut (4) to a torque of 16 ± 2 N·m (12 ± 1 lb ft).

Setscrew (5) regulates the output flow rate of the rear pump during the second stage.

1. Adjust the rear pump.

a. Loosen locknut (6) .

b. Turn setscrew (5) until the output flow rate of the pump is adjusted to the correct specification.

c. Tighten locknut (6) to a torque of 16 ± 2 N·m (12 ± 1 lb ft).

Note: Turning setscrew (3) or setscrew (5) clockwise will increase the output flow of the pump. Turning
setscrew (3) or setscrew (5) counterclockwise will decrease the output flow of the pump.

(9) Setscrew (rear pump)

(10) Locknut (rear pump)

1. Adjust the maximum output flow of the front pump.

a. Loosen locknut (8) .

b. Turn setscrew (7) until the output flow of the front pump is adjusted to the correct specification.

c. Tighten locknut (8) to a torque of 16 ± 2 N·m (12 ± 1 lb ft).

2. Adjust the maximum output flow of the rear pump.

a. Loosen locknut (10) .

b. Turn setscrew (9) until the output flow of the front pump is adjusted to the correct specification.

c. Tighten locknut (10) to a torque of 16 ± 2 N·m (12 ± 1 lb ft).

Note: One quarter turn of setscrew (7) or (9) will change the output flow of the pump approximately 6 L/min
(1.6 US gpm).

Note: Turning setscrew (5) or (9) clockwise will increase the output flow of the pump. Turning setscrew (5) or
(9) counterclockwise will decrease the output flow of the pump.
