Activity 1.1
Factoring Polynomials with Common Monomial Factor

Objective
Factor polynomials with common monomial factor.

What do we
have in
common?

Concepts
To multiply a monomial and a polynomial, we use the distributive property to multiply each term of the
polynomial by the monomial. To factor means we do the reverse and we look for the common factor.
The common factor is a term with the greatest possible coefficient and the variable with the least
power. Example, the common factor of 15b3 and 20b7 = 5b3.
