This lesson plan discusses the paraphrastic approach and language-based approach to teaching literature. The paraphrastic approach involves rewording text into simpler language through paraphrasing. It is useful for interviews with children and focuses on surface level meaning. The language-based approach studies the literary text itself and provides tools for interpretation and critical analysis. Both approaches have benefits, such as encouraging student participation and focusing on engaging topics. The lesson includes activities to help students learn the differences between the two approaches.

Paraphrastic approach and language based approach

 Paraphrastic approach - is primarily paraphrasing and rewording the text to

simpler language or use other languages to translate it. Teachers use simple
words or less complex sentence structure to make the original text easy to
understand (Divsar, 2014).\
- Is also used in interview with children
- Deals with the surface meaning of the text

Importance of paraphrastic approach

Evans and Robert (2009) promoted two ways to promote the use of paraphrasing that
give benefits to students.

- Paraphrasing may encourage rapport.

- Transferring control to children or student.

 Language-based approach - using literature includes techniques and procedures

which are concerned more directly with the study of the literary text itself. The
aim here is to provide the students with the tools they need to interpret a text and
to make competent critical judgements of it

Language based approach advantages

- Excellent opportunity for classroom discussion

- Focus on genuinely interesting and motivating topics to explore
- Offer wide range of styles and register

Importance of language based approach

This approach is kindly be one of the best approach of teaching literature because it’s
precisely concerned on the aesthetic value of one’s literature artwork. This approach
creates awareness of language use in classroom.
