Activity 2:

List down five questions which you want to be answered related to Gender and Sexuality.

Explain why you want to answer these questions. Identify why you think these questions are

within the scope of gender studies.

Question no. 1: Can you differentiate between the two terms, gender and sexuality?
- I would like to ask this question because a lot of the time, those two terms are being used
interchangeably and many people tend to use them in rather odd and incorrect ways. I do find
that for one to understand what gender and sexuality are, one must be open to how people
identify themselves these days. It's saddening that prejudice comes first before
understanding.

Question no. 2: Why do we have to put gender and sexuality along with the societal
roles of individuals?
- Inequalities and injustices are caused by the identified societal roles between males and
females. I think that with the openness of our society today, it is in the right season to put an
end on how the societal roles are being associated with gender and sexuality.

Question no. 3: Why is it some of the topic related to gender and sexuality still a taboo/
controversial in the Philippines?
- It is undeniably true that societal standards especially when it comes to defining male and
female, they only took the traditional definition of these terms. In the current generation,
especially in the Philippines where people are bounded by religious beliefs and traditional
practices, it is really hard for a person to be open when it comes to their own identity.

Question no. 4: How an LGBTQ+ member define acceptance?

- There are always issues regarding injustices and discrimination among these people who
are members of LGBTQ+ Community. The government always sees the right for every
individual. However, the government, the religious groups/ organizations and the LGBTQ+
Community does not meet at the same point. That is why the members of this rainbow
community always demand for an acceptance and equal opportunities. This colorful
community knows their boundaries, but sometimes they demand for something that is more
superior than of the other sex/ gender. The world already consider their rights as a liberated
individuals towards their identity. I want to ask this question to specify what my co-member
really want.

Question no. 5: Why is it important to learn and understand the concept of gender and
sexuality?
- This question is an easy question to think. It is effortless to learn the definition of these
concepts. However, even though we already know these things, why is it there still a need to
take this course in college? Maybe because, individuals does not acquire the real essence of
the concept and on how to value the knowledge of understanding and acceptance that in our
society there are gender differences and sexual preferences.
