P-CSCF: The Proxy-Call Session Control Function (P-CSCF) is the first contact point for
the users of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). The P-CSCF functions as a proxy server
for the user equipment; all Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) signalling traffic to and from the
user equipment must go through the P-CSCF
E-CSCF: The E-CSCF is a specialist platform which is designed to facilitate support for
emergency services dialling. In this capacity, the E-CSCF will take in requests from the P-
CSCF (Proxy CSCF) and S-CSCF (Serving CSCF) and route these emergency session
requests to a suitable onward destination such as a PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point).
In order to achieve this, the E-CSCF can use the services of the LRF (Location Retrieval
Function).
S-CSCF: S-CSCF - Serving – Call Session Control Function. The S-CSCF is the
primary hy7node in the IMS responsible for session control. Subscribers will be
allocated a S-CSCF for the duration of their IMS registration in order to facilitate
routing of SIP messages as part of service establishment procedures.
I-CSCF: Interrogating Call Session Control Function (I-CSCF) is a key element in
the IMS roaming methodology. It enables requests to be routed to the correct Serving Call
State Control Function. As there may be several S-CSCFs either within a network, or if a
roaming user requests access.
IBCF: Interconnection Border Control Function (IBCF) Interconnect Border
Control Function (IBCF) offers boundar y control between various service provider
networks, providing IMS network security in terms of signalling information. Use for
Topology hiding.
BGCF: The Breakout Gateway Control Function is an IMS element that chooses the network
where PSTN breakout happens. ... If the interworking is in another network, then
the BGCF will forward the SIP signalling to the BGCF of that network. BGCF is used for
calls from the IMS to a phone in a Circuit Switched network, such as the PSTN or the
PLMN. BGCF forwards the signaling to the selected PSTN/PLMN network. The MGCF then
receives the SIP signalling from the BGCF and manages the interworking with the PSTN
network.
TAS :
The Telephony Application Server (TAS) is a back-to-back SIP user agent in IMS that
maintains the call state. The TAS contains the service logic which provides the basic call
processing services including digit analysis, routing, call setup, call waiting, call forwarding,
conferencing, etc.
ENUM :
ENUM (E. 164 Number to URI Mapping) translates telephone numbers into Internet
addresses. ... ENUM RFC 6116 is a protocol developed by the IETF that uses the Internet
DNS system to translate E. 164 (i.e. ordinary) telephone numbers into IP addressing
schemes (like SIP, H323 or Email)
LRN in Telecom
A location routing number (LRN) is an identification for a telephone switch for the
purpose of routing telephone calls through the public switched telephone network
(PSTN) in the United States. ... The association of a location routing number with a
telephone number is required for local number portability
