CC316 Act02

The document provides a mapping between various human body parts and computer components. It lists 17 mappings such as: 1) The motherboard is like the human skeleton or spine that supports other internal components. 2) The power supply is like the human heart that draws power from an external source and distributes it internally. 3) The webcam is like human eyes as a means of input and interaction. The mappings are provided as analogies to help understand the function of various computer parts based on comparable human body parts.

1. Motherboard= Spine or Skeleton

The motherboard is the foundation. It’s the circuit

board where everything is attached to – the CPU, memory, hard drive, monitor, mouse,
keyboard, add-on cards, even additional peripherals like printers, scanners, and speakers. The
motherboard is like the nervous system and skeleton of the human body – it provides support
for the internal components and also passes information between the computer parts.

2. Power supply = The heart

If a CPU is the brains of your computer, then a power supply

unit has got to be the heart. A human heart draws oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps to the
rest of the body; A power supply draws the alternating current (AC) from the wall socket, converts it into
direct current (DC) and delivers it to the rest of the computer.

3. Webcam = Eyes

BSCS Department Page 2 of 11 /mlcds

2– CC316-Application Development and Emerging Technologies

Eyes are the most important features of the human face like a computer webcam. So effective
usage of eye movements as a communication technique in user-to-computer interfaces can find
place in various application areas. Eye tracking and the information provided by the eye features
have the potential to become an interesting way of communicating with a computer in a
human-computer interaction (HCI) system

4. Hard Drive= Brain(Subconscious)

BSCS Department Page 3 of 11 /mlcds

2– CC316-Application Development and Emerging Technologies

The hard drive is where you can stores all your data. The hard drive stores and retrieves all of our
precious information and programs for use by use whenever we wish. Just like our long term
memories, knowlegde from our past in the human brain.

5. Video Card= Eyes

A video card is an expansion card that is used to enhance the

quality of images to display. Similar to the purpose of the human eye,it connects to the human
brain and send the images from the outside world.

6.System Case= Skin

A computer case or also known as computer chassis is the enclosure that contains almost all of
the vital part of the computer, this gives the computer a definite shape. It defines a computer

telling us more about it, how it responds to the conditions around. Same implies the human
skin, it defines the human body.

7. Heat Sinks= Sweat Glands

Heat sinks or also known as computer fan is a

device that is used eliminate excessive to avoid over heating of the unit. In the same sense why
humans sweat is to cool off the body times of high heat.

8. Speaker= Mouth (Output Device)

Speakers are one of the common output devices used with our computers or laptops. The sole
purpose of speakers is to produce audio output that can be heard by the listener just like how
we humans use our mouth to communicate with outher people, interact with the conversation
and express our opinions.

9. Microphone= Ears (Input Device)

A microphone is an input device that use to capture audio messages and converting sound
waves into an electrical signal just like our ears. We use our ears to listen to the sounds in order
for us to understand what other people are saying. We also use our ears to listen and
understand music and other sounds in our sorroundings.

10. Monitor= Face (Output Device)

Page 6 of 11 /mlcds
2– CC316-Application Development and Emerging Technologies

A computer monitor is an output device to display informations in picture form in the same
sense with our face. We use our face to display and interact with emotions like anger,
happiness, sadness, etc.

11. Keyboard= Fingers (Input Device)

A keyboard is an input device we use to input text informations to the computer. As for our
fingers we used it to input informations to our computers using our keyboards or to our
phones, we also used it to write our thoughts on the paper and sometimes we used our fingers
to communicate with the deaf and mute person.

12. Computer Wires= Blood vessel

Page 7 of 11 /mlcds
2– CC316-Application Development and Emerging Technologies

Computer wires are used to connect all the components of the computer. The computer will
not function normally if there is a missing link. Just like our blood vessel it acts like a bridge to
deliver all informations from our sensory like sense of touch, smell, hearing and taste to our
brain.

13. Anti Virus= White Blood Cells

An antivirus is a software is designed and used to detect and destroy computer viruses it is also
used to protect computer from computer viruses like ILOVEYOU Virus same sense with the
white blood cells in our body which is the main goal is to destroy foreign bodies that enters to
our body and destroy it to avoid further infections.

14. Power Supply= Food

Page 8 of 11 /mlcds
2– CC316-Application Development and Emerging Technologies

The computer needed power to function properly is like how energy is needed for the human
body. The computer needs power to collect and store datas; just like how we need to eat
healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, and carbohydrates so we have the energy to do our daily
tasks.

15. Random-Access-Memory(RAM)= Brain (Frontal Lobe)

RAM is a computer hardware which has the role of short term memory of the computer that
can be readand change in any order. Just like our pre frontal lobe who is responsible for
memory formation, for example, depends on sensory input, which depends on numerous areas
of the brain.

16. Sound Card= Eardrum

Page 9 of 11 /mlcds
2– CC316-Application Development and Emerging Technologies

A sound card is used to convert digital data to sound. This enables us to listen to music from our
personal computer using earphones. This is basically the EAR of the computer in the same
sense with our eardrums that reacts to the soundwaves into acceptable information that can
be comprehend by the human brain.

17. Computer Storage Unit= Food Pyramid

Every computer has it’s own storage unit capacity. The computer units is a measuring system
for how data a computer can hold. Just like how human can eat certain amount of food until
they’re full.

18. Optical Drives= Optic Nerve(eye)

Page 10 of 11 /mlcds
2– CC316-Application Development and Emerging Technologies

An optical drive is a computer system that allow us to use DVDs and Blu-ray optical drives. This
contain some lenses that project on electromagnetic waves that are responsible for reading
and writing data on optical discs just like the optic nerve that connects our eye to the human
brain. These pair of nerves that transmits visual information from the retina to the brain.
