2- PRODUCTS
2.01 MATERIALS/EQUIPMENT
A. Pipe Insulation
All pipes and fittings for condensate water shall be insulated with
preformed sectional , flexible elastomeric foam pipe section, 19mm.
Internal chilled water pipework shall be insulated with pre-formed
fiberglass sections with heavy duty reinforced Aluminum Foil backing
cover, with sections closed butted and all joints and longitudinal
overlaps sealed with 75 mm wide aluminum foil tape. Bends of
fiberglass insulation shall be formed by using fiberglass rigid sections
plain, mitered and cut to fit on site, covered with lagging canvas dipped
in lagging adhesive which must be allowed to dry before wrapping with
self-adhesive tape with minimum overlap 25% of tape width.
External Chilled Water pipework and fittings exposed to the atmosphere
shall be insulated with 50 mm thick per-formed rigid fiber glass sections
of minimum 64 kg/m3 density and thermal conductivity not greater than
0.04 w/m Degree C with aluminum foil securely fixed directly to the pipe
surface with adhesive conforming with BS 5970; 1981 section 2. Joints
shall be made with 75 mm plastic adhesive tape with a tack coat of the
      adhesive on the aluminum surface.
Pipe insulation shall be finished with a waterproof 20x20 thread per inch
woven glass cloth painted with two coats of approved anti-fungal lagging
      adhesive.
The thickness of insulation shall be according to the following table:
Pipe Size Thickness of Insulation mm
50 mm and under 32 mm
65 mm and above 50 mm
       All external pipework 50 mm

** ADD PROJECT NAME HERE ** SECTION XX XX XX PIPE INSULATION
Exposed piping running on roof shall be cladded with Aluminum sheet
        0.7mm thickness.
All insulation materials shall be properly stored in a suitable manner so
as to protect them from damage or deterioration before installation.
3- EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION AND PROTECTION OF PIPE INSULATION
Before applying the insulation, surface shall be thoroughly clean and
dry. All dirt, scale, rust, oil, grease or water shall be adequately
        removed.
Insulation shall not be applied on valves above the bonnet, on strainer
basket plus, nor on nameplate. Any part of equipment, that is normally
removable for service, (i.e. heat-exchangers’ heads ) shall be insulated
from the equipment. Pipes shall be individually insulated.
The finished insulated surface shall present a neat, uniform and parallel
appearance, whether concealed or exposed to view.
All insulated pipes in the open air shall be covered, with an additional
layer of factory applied aluminum layer .
Insulation on Bends and Tees shall be cut and mitered on site to fit and
shall be secured to the pipe work and to adjoining sections using
suitable adhesive, such that the insulation is continuous. The entire
surface should then have a tack-foat of approved adhesive coating,
applied by brush at the rte of 1-litre per 1 m2. No.20 mesh open weave
glass cloth should then be immediately embedded into the wet film,
allowing an overlap of 75 mm at all longitudinal and butt joints. The
glass cloth should be smoothed out to eliminate all wrinkles, and then
allowed to dry. This is followed by a second coating of adhesive coating
at the rate of 1-litter/m2 when the adhesive coating is thoroughly dry,
one coat of approved vapour barrier coating should be applied by brush
to the entire surface, at the rate of 1-litre per m2 followed by a second
coat at the rate of 1-litre per 4 m2.

** ADD PROJECT NAME HERE ** SECTION XX XX XX PIPE INSULATION
Roof exposed pipes shall be cladded wih 0.55 mm thick hammered
tone the aluminum sheeting with over lapping joints and pop rivet
       fixings.
All the chilled water piping exposed to view within plant room shall be
       cladded as mentioned above.
Chilled Water Services pipe work shall have rigid rubber or beech wood
blocks installed in two halves at each pipe support. Blocks shall be of
the same thickness as the thermal insulation and the vapour barrier
shall be taken from the insulation over the block. The pre-isolated
support blocks shall be supplied complete with metal spreader plates to
be used on the load carrying surface of the pipe (usually at the bottom)
where pipes are supported from below. Where pipes are suspended in
ring clips with swinging drop rods, the support blocks shall be provided
       with metal on both halves.
Flanges, valves and fittings requiring insulation shall be covered with a
thickness of insulation equal to that of adjacent pipe, cut to shape, fixed
to the metal and to adjacent insulation with the appropriate adhesive
with any open joints filled- in with a mixture of mastic and granulated
insulation. The whole shall be smoothed sown by building up sharp
corners with mastic, covers with tape with a further coating of water
vapour barrier. All such fittings shall be vapour-sealed and finished in
accordance with the requirements for the adjacent pipe work, except
that all valves in plant rooms shall be finished with 0.91 mm thick
‘hammered’ aluminum boxes which shall be designed for easy removal
and access for maintenance without disturbing insulation on adjacent
pipe work. Purpose-made valve boxes shall be subject to Engineer’s
       approval.
On chilled water piping sensor, thermometer and other controls and
instrumentation pockets shall be insulated as specified, to prevent the
       occurrence of condensation
Contraction joints shall be included in the insulation at locations subject
to the approval of the Engineer and at all expansion fittings. There shall
be a 12 mm gap between the insulation sections. The gap shall be
loosely sacked with long stranded glass fiber mattress to a thickness 6
mm less than the thickness of the adjacent insulation. The joint-sealer
as specified shall be applied to the joint and finished to match the finish
       of the adjoining insulation.

** ADD PROJECT NAME HERE ** SECTION XX XX XX PIPE INSULATION
At positions where pipes with unclad insulation pass through pipe
sleeves built into fire walls/barriers and acoustic walls/barriers
insulation shall be clad as specified to a distance of 200 mm each side
of the pipe sleeves. The gaps between the pipe sleeves and the
insulation cladding shall be ram packed with loose fill. Vapour barriers
shall be continuous over thermal insulation including branch
connections, flanges, valves, pumps and like equipment. Where
insulation is terminated, ends shall be fully sealed.
Hangers and brackets supporting insulated services shall be fixed
externally to thermal insulation and vapour barrier. Rigid insulating
material, such as rigid rubber or timber rings, shall be inserted between
       the support and the pipe.
